What Would It Take For Hummer To Survive In This Day And Age?

The Great Recession of 2009 wasn’t kind to many automakers, a few of whom were forced to jettison brands like the crew of a sinking boat heaving cargo overboard. With a decent level of consumer confidence and continued cheap gas, things are looking up — even as they’re looking down (January results were less than favorable for a few).

Imagine for a moment you could conjure the ability (and the funds) to revive a brand that’s recently departed this landscape. We have four from which you can select — and a brand new way for you to vote.

Put this grill on the new Blazer, charge $50 large so GM can use this crossover platform on another vehicle with little or no (mostly 'no') effort.

- An overall exterior update, of course.
- Updates to the interior - gauge cluster, center stack, etc. Big nav screens...a la Ram.
- Available all-around cameras, extended sunroof. Or removable roof.
- Standard engine must be at least 325 hp/350 trq - offer TT-V6 & V8 in both RWD/AWD configs for upper trim options.
- Continue to offer the rugged wheel/tire packages, but offer optional 19", 20", 22" wheels with street-oriented rubber - better for fuel ratings maybe if you don't off-road often - smoother hwy ride.
- Top luxury/premium trim should get adjustable suspension.

I've seen about 5-6 Hummers (H2, H3) in the past month. Why not, gas aint so expensive & the V8 Alpha is easily a rugged brute. Swap out the ancient stereo for something with Bluetooth & better speakers. Perfect used truck. Would be nice to see an updated H3 next to the Wrangler & rumored Bronco.

GM needs Hummer as a premium SUV brand to co-brand with Cadillac. It should be their Range Rover brand. What GM doesn't need is the redundancy of GMC and Buick.

Imagine if GM kept Hummer & was offering 4-5 updated SUV's today. Pure gold.

An H2 on today's Silverado platform. An H3 on today's Colorado platform. Light duty Hummers sharing both the XT4 & XT6 platforms. With all the available engine, transmission combinations.

GM is so underrated. Still spread thin with too many (unfocused) brands.

Buick was one of the top luxury brands in China with terrific name recognition. It made sense to keep this brand for China as the world's fastest growing market.
The Asstek killed Pontiac. Hummer was selling litery dozens of trucks. The Hummer 3 was a horrible piece of crap. GM can not execute the type of product needed to make hummer a viable luxury truck - look at the XT6.
GMC I cannot understand, although they are doing well, but resources could be better utilized making Caddys more than Chevy crossovers with a new grill.
