SPIED! BMW's i4 That's CHASING Tesla's Model 3 Nabbed Undergoing Winter Testing

Development of BMW all-electric i4 is well under way, and new spyshots reveal the four-door coupe undergoing cold weather testing.

Like previous prototype shots, we can see there is a clear visual link between the new EV and the latest 3 Series, as the i4 will share much of its design with the upcoming 4 Series Gran Coupé

However, a side-on view reveals that the new car appears higher off the ground (both in terms of roof height and ground clearance) than today's 4 Series, suggesting a raised floor to accommodate a sizeable long-range battery. Other tell-tale signs that this is the i4 include blanked-off front grilles, fake 'exhausts' in the disguise, and legally mandated 'electric test vehicle' stickers...

Just one more of the 250 electric cars coming to market over the next several years. Tesla loses govt buyer's tax credits this year and will have to face all those competitors at a $7500 price disadvantage on top of any other price disadvantage Tesla cars typically have.

Tesla still has the advantage of super charge network. But doesn't have deep pockets like other manufactures so definitely will be a struggle. I can see Toyota is buying it (who haven't made much progress on EV). Or someone like Apple (who just abandoned its self driving department)

I can see Tesla going away altogether. It will collapse financially and a few buyers will pick up the scraps for pennies.

Because that is where their 3-series sales are going. They were decimated in the US this year and will feel the pain in Europe as shipments of the Model 3 ramp up there.

"chasing" is the correct term because BMW is using a compromised platform and it will not have the packaging efficiency of a Model 3. The hood will be overly long resulting in wasted space while the cabin will be comparatively cramped. Not a serious effort by BMW.

Give me the BMW over the garbage from Fremont.
