Hot 300HP VW T-Roc R Performance Crossover Caught Testing At Nurburgring

The video effectively confirms the existence of the performance SUV, which the company had previously been keeping a relative secret. It shows rally driver Petter Solberg figuring a camouflaged prototype on the Nordschleife but reveals little else about the car.

Autocar understands the T-Roc R will use the same 296bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as the Golf R hot hatch, with which it shares its platform.

The Matrix would likely be classified a crossover today.

yeah, same with the HHR, PT Cruiser. the Juke & Soul were the category busters.

The T-Roc isn't in the US. I'm assuming it's closely related to the Golf platform configuration. A lot less than the Tiguan then.

Arguably, the TRoc would be a good replacement for the GTI in the USA given how Golf and GTI sales have cratered.

We don't say "hunchback" anymore. We say "crossover". Throwing "outback" fender flares on a Golf, some butch wheels and tires, giving it an outdoorsy roof rack, and rechristening it the GolfCross would be a tacky yet expedient way to improve Golf sales. LOL

MDarringer: There are still plenty of 5-door hatchbacks (hatchs) all around. Civic, Stinger, Panamera, Fiesta, Cruze, 4-series, Forte, A5, Regal, Cooper. And most of these clearly are not crossovers.

Now, whether or not you see them often depends on consumer trends in your area.

FACT: Sales of the Golf and GTI have collapsed.

In VW case, anything that looks nice and attractive like their new Toureg will not becoming to the North America marketplace. I do not expect this T-Roc and T-Roc R will be excluded too.

The Toerag is NOT attractive it is dull and dated looking.

Yes-This should replace the Golf and GTI. Its certainly better looking with probably miniscule loss of handling which could be engineered out.
