GM Steps Further Away From Australian Market To Reduce Costs

General Motors stopped making cars in Australia more than a year ago but may not be done with the restructuring of its operations Down Under.

Since then, GM has focused on applying painful restructuring measures in the United States. However, a recent report from AFR suggests the U.S. automaker isn’t done fixing its Australian operations.

As GM is now reduced to being a car importer in Australia, reports have emerged that the carmaker is considering an externalization of its importing activities to the country’s biggest car importer and distributor, UK-based Inchcape Motors.

When times get tough you cut back, tighten your belt...I get it. However no great company ever saved its way into prosperity. Get on the offensive GM or get out of the business. This isn't the 1950's and 1960's. Your arrogance and your ego need to go. Your back is against the wall. Make some damn good products or make for the door.

Sergio Maricon's strategy for FCA was to save its way out of debt and sure enough they are our of debt, but they also have no important, big selling products pending. Aside from the Ram and Wrangler that were significant makeovers rather than all-new, the new Grand Cherokee is to be just a reskin of the current outdated vehicle. The Charger and Challenger will be reskinned but "nada mas". Nothing for Maserati. Three-row crossover for Chrysler? Crickets. Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer suddenly not being talked about.

I predict that FCA and GM will be bought out within a very short period.
