New Mercedes C-class caught undisguised for the first time!

That looks really bad. I think MB will continue to lose market share: cheap quality, cheap materials, cheap workmanship and bad designs.

Still better than an Audi in my modest opinion..

While I in no way object to the styling, I must say the boot-lid is very short.

It looks like a hatch back that has grown a boot.

The new GS is a little similar to a degree.

You are VERY far from the truth. Mercedes is no longer cheap. Their 90's bad spell is well and truely out of the way, and I'm happy to say the new range of Mercedes models are both vault-like in their construction and top-notch in their materials.

i agree the back looks like an old nissan altima... before the current model.

The tail-lights look like they came from the late 80s early 90s, and then I remind myself, they probably did.

This C-class better have LED tail lights.

The rear end is kind of messy and disappointing. The front end and profile seems to continue M-B's current design theme. At least he fender arches aren't so massive, a la S-Class.

Wow, the back end is very disappointing. The back end just looks too short. If this is the new C-Class, its not gonna win anyone over.

MB sucks. They are just like Audi. All of there cars look the same. This is just a smaller version of the S class. There designers are too damn lazy. Thats why i prefer BMW.

I don't think it's that bad...no worse than the current C-Class. I love the S and E classes, but I've never been a fan of the C.

Mercedes does this every damn time with a new release, they puposefully crap it up so the model refresh 4 years out really stands out. What they forget is that first impressions are EVERYTHING. They have too much riding on this release to make it look so unfinished. The wheels are pathetic, no aggresive side or rear body skirts, and just very safe in general. Look what they did with the current C class from release to mid life model refresh, doesnt even look like the same car. Too bad, I hope I am wrong and what we get here in the US is a much more finished version. Shame.

Is it just me or do the door handles look crooked?

i think the short rear end is due to the angle of the photo, ion the front on photo it looks better, and the wheels look bigger in that pic too.

Like so many major model changes including BMW, it won't please everyone and the styling will grow on others. I think it looks fine for the customers it is aiming to please, which is not necessarily those posting comments here. Trust me, enough market research has been done on this model before the first one rolls off the line for sale. The average C-Class customer will come to like it just as the average S-Class customer warmed up to the new 2007 model.

This is true, the average MB customer in this segment won't care so much that the look is not as competitive as say the 3er or even the IS, they just want a benz. MB knows that they will sell as well as the previous no matter how bland it looks now and with crooked door handles too. I tell you, the model refresh will really look good...now just wait 4 years...

Yeah, Its a shame. I mean Mercedes compact class has gone downhill since the days of the 190E. While it was once the style leader in the lineup, it later was reduced to being scaled-down versions of the E-Class and now S-Class.

I still yearn for a 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth. (Wow. A M-B with a clutch! Go figure!)

i dont think that it was "reduced" when it was changed to looking like "more expensive" mercedes, i think this is a nice looking car it looks like a smaller version of the new s class, at least it looks like a mercedes and not like a japanese 3 series, or a car that should have been scions companct sedan....(discussing the same, second rate car in both comments--lexus is350). people like them enough to pay thousands more for them than the competition just like the 3 series so im pretty sure they will sell.

I own the facelifted V6 C230 and whatever the idiots and haters here may say, Mercedes really improved this car big time. I picked my C230 over the BMW 325i, Lexus IS250 and Saab 9-3. I felt it was the best-balanced in regards to sport, comfort and fun (I have the 6-speed).

The new C looks very nice from what I am seeing. Why do some people bring the S-Class into this? This car has zero styling cues from the S-Class. Nothing. It appears to be very classy and elegant, I really like it. Maybe I'll even consider it once it reaches our shores, is reviewed and when I get a chance to drive it.

Either way, it looks fantastic.
