Ford headed to leaving Europe altogether maybe. Hasn't made money there in a long long time.

This is a good excuse to move production to eastern Europe....

Ford will probably be focused on manufacturing in China. England is history.

No the whole EU experiment is a failed utopian dream and the UK was smart enough to get out.

THis has zero to do with Brexit and anyone who thinks so, isn't thinking... vehicle mfg in the UK has been living on borrowed time for a very long time...

@xjug1987a Correct. AND the new cozy deal with VW would tend to indicate that VW may build Fords for Ford.

For all those who think that Brexit is a great idea, I'd love to see your plans to bring jobs back to the UK. It will be hollowed out in the next 10-20 years if they do not turn away from this stupidity.

Perhaps they should go back to blacksmiths and buggy whips? They need to move to higher tech jobs as this type of mfg isnt feasable there with such lower cost areas so close and VERY available. been living on borrowed time and "nostalgia" as Jags, Bentleys & RR (Aston's, Lotus's) have "always" been built in England... not for much longer I predict...

A quick check brought this: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-kingdom/unemployment-rate Unemployment Rate in the United Kingdom decreased to 4 percent in November from 4.10 percent in October of 2018. Unemployment Rate in the United Kingdom averaged 7.01 percent from 1971 until 2018, reaching an all time high of 12 percent in February of 1984 and a record low of 3.40 percent in November of 1973.

If you crack a book it is pretty simple to see the tremendous advantages of being part of a common market with the free movement of goods, people, services, labour and capital. Having said that you are still responsible for running your nation well. Not wanting to be part of a 330M market for the sake of pride or fear of foreigners is silly. That is how we got to Brexit in the first place. Nations who craft these deals with other nations will thrive. Those who put up walls and have isolationist policies will fail.

Ford threatening to leave the UK due to Brexit is utter BS. Manufacturing is DEAD in the UK thanks to the Union and socialist mentality. All these companies would have moved overseas to a lower cost jurisdiction anyways and Brexit is just accelerating the plans and giving them a handy excuse and scapegoat.

All the big German manufacturers are doing the same with plants in China, India and other shitholes. Sure they say it is to feed the local market but then they start making more parts oversees for the motherland plants and slowly all that expensive domestic product is replaced. It's not politics -its economics.

Big global companies can afford to dive for the bottom, that's the way to do it! Get poor countries to compete, pull jobs from wealthier countries until the wealthier countries start pushing wages down in order to compete. Give it another 15-20yrs... add in the massive amount of automation and AI that will be introduced into both blue and white collar jobs... good times ahead.
