Leaving Money On The Table? McLaren Says A SUV Supercar Will NEVER Be In It's Future
Despite the market pressures being put on premium automakers to offer SUVs, the McLaren brand will remain a holdout.

“I can easily answer that and say no,” said Mark Roberts, head of design operations for McLaren Automotive. “We really do deliver on the ultimate driving experience. For us, it means no compromise. An SUV doesn’t allow us to deliver on that. It’s not a no-compromise kind of vehicle.”

The comments were made during the inaugural luxury and supercar forum, a preview event held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in advance of the Canadian International AutoShow, which is open to the public starting today.

"Never" is code for "until we hit a prolonged soft spot in demand and need a more steady source of revenue."

Yeah. Right. Ferrari and Rolls Royce said the same thing not so long ago.

McLaren has a bit of a reliability and durability issue to contend with before it should be striking out on new model lines. They are worst or 2nd to the worst in terms of running costs. Bad transmissions, worn suspension parts, electronics on haywire. A used F430 coupe may be a better bet if you want a reliable exotic car.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the new TVR is more reliable?

@MD- Fair comparison as they are both low volume makes from the UK. No 4 year old car should need $35K in maintenance/replacement parts like an MP4-12C did in a video on YouTube. The 3rd owner who got is used thought it was worth it as it is "such a good car to drive". Jeepers.

On a tangent, I think TVR should cut a deal with Mazda for Miatas, then drop in the Ford Coyote/Voodoo V8 (that was driven through the Cosworth parking lot so that it can pretend to be a Cosworth V8), throw on a Sagaris nose and create a real TVR Sagamora.

Car manufacturers are like politicians, you never know if it's true until they start denying it.
