Genesis Moves Into Maybach Territory With Extended Wheelbase G90

As though we needed more proof that Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury arm has the Germans in its crosshairs, Genesis has placed an extended-wheelbase version of the G90 on the Asian market. Called the “Limousine Prestige,” the South Korean marque’s new model is a clear attempt to move in on Maybach’s territory.

While most agree that Genesis has done a rather good job of delivering legitimate lavishness at bargain prices, the addition of a limo will undoubtedly force it be held to a higher standard. Thankfully, this seems like the right car for the job. Whereas the G70 is focused on delighting the driver, the brand’s larger sedans sacrifice sportiness to make more room for comfort — a fair trade, especially considering it used to be the go-to formula for all reputable luxury vehicles before low-profile tires became the norm.

Design wise this works. Hyundai also makes a great luxury interior on the Genesis.

LOL. They added more length by adding a spacer between the fore and aft sections. Similar to what you do with kitchen cabinets. Tacky as hell. At least the Maybach's extended length is seamless.

Any senior executive who rides in the Maybach crowd will be laughed out of the country club if they show up riding in a Hyundai Gennie.

In Korea and a few other SW Asian countries this will be the limit of choice. (Vietnamese seem to prefer Mercedes). Why shouldn't Hyundai/Genesis make a limo?
My neighbor just bought a G90. It seems pretty nice and well built.

Whats missing in all this is the sheer audacity of Hyundai to make this. Regardless I'll bet the car is competent in terms of interior, electronics, handling, design, build quality... whats missing is lineage and history.

I don't see Ford/Lincoln making a statement I do see GM produce perhaps the best Cadillac sedan in its history the CT6 and screw it up and allow it to die with zero effort to sell it. Only giving it the V8 is should always have had after they decide to kill it.... I don't see Chrysler building an Imperial that rivals any luxury car.

Though this car is not a stretched S Class (Maybach) I imagine plenty of people would take their limo ride in it. Certainly in countries that are proud of what their nations produce. I'd always buy an American Luxury car if GM would actually make a 110% effort vs the competition. Why does every luxury car have to be German...? I get it, they've built the reputation which is a credit to their marketing budgets.

I applaud Hyundai for this... I remember seeing pathetic 1985 Excel's on the road and they never sat still and decided, "hey we make crap cars, so lets just continue to make crap cars...." Whereas plenty of mfr's once made superb cars and now don't give a crap and sell junk, just so they boost their short term stock price...(GM).

May the Koreans are trying to replicate the Toyota Century for their domestic market. In that case it would be patriotic South Koreans who buy the thing to be driven in.

But outside of that market, who in their right mind would want this hideous thing. There are so many other better vehicles to be driven around in.

I dont get it. Why are they putting all this money into cars that are not selling compared to the competition? Series Genesis, Kia K900. Why waste money redesigning the K900? It was a flop.

The Hyundai Genesis Is Not The Future

Unfortunately, Genesis owners usually see a depreciation of 38 percent after one year. With a price tag of $52,000, that equals a $16,000 loss on investment. You might be better off buying one of these second hand if you’re truly looking for the best value.
