Next Gen Macan To Be Exclusively All-Electric - Is That Good Or Bad News For The Purist?

The next-generation Porsche Macan will be offered exclusively with electric drivetrains, in a move that further distances the German car maker from traditional internal combustion engine technology.

In an official announcement, Porsche said: "The Supervisory Board of Porsche AG has decided to manufacture the next generation of the Macan as a fully electric series."

Premature mistake. Go both ways off one platform or introduce a new model.

Agreed, offer an electric version but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater...

Smart, they can get rid of any legacy architecture and design it as an EV from the ground up. For a CUV you can stack the battery cells under the seats for a larger interior and two full-sized trunks. Think that will be the next gen design post-skateboard.

My wife drives a Macan and the first thing she said after I told her the news that the next generation Macan will be all electric was "I don't want that shit", LoL!

She'll be the minority by that time. The increased speed, responsiveness, and AWD might convince her otherwise.

Stay tuned for Porsche marketing to try to convince you that fake engine sounds are still part of the DNA of the brand....

that would make it 4-5 years from now, so yeah sounds about right also purists weren't buying macans anyway

Maybe not purists but it is Porsche's best selling model with over 86,000 units sold last year. Odd to walk away from your best selling model format unless there is more here than meets the eye or being reported now.

You would be surprised how many Macan owners were previous 911 owners.

I can see a lot of Porsche fans having both. Daily driver Macan and a 911 for the weekend.

They should do an ICE crossover BELOW the Macan electric....Porsche TRoc?

It also makes you wonder if any other mfg will follow suit. Ferrari and Lamborghini are talking about hybrids, not BEV's. Not sure where McLaren is going. There may come a day when the batteries grow in size and the engines shrink in displacement, but I would think that one of these two iconic brands will be the last to drop ICE motors from their vehicles.

The kind of gamble that could bring down a company, especially considering that a change is likely coming in lower mileage and emissions standards coupled increased production of oil on world markets.

This is a over reactionary BBD (bad board decision) move that could cost Porsche dearly as they put all the eggs in one basket.

Nothing wrong with launching a all "coal powered electric" version of the Macan but to commit 100% is premature especially when battery material sources are currently in short supply and only going to potentially worsen as BEV get more mainstream.
