Tesla Model X Mysteriously Found Burned Out On Frozen Lake Bed

A Tesla Model X was found burning to almost nothing on a frozen lake in Vermont and it’s unclear how it ended up there.

Vermont-based Tesla Model 3 owner GreenMtnM3 on TMC said that he spotted a vehicle burning on Lake Champlain last weekend:

The devil made a pact with Musk and now he is taking back what he bargained for by brimstone and fire.

Severely damage an ICE car and guess what, it explodes as well. At least you have a few minutes to get out of the Tesla before it explodes.

@SJD This is NOT an empirically true statement: "Severely damage an ICE car and guess what, it explodes as well."

Did Elon tell you to bluster again?

287,000 vehicle fires per year is not empirical evidence?

Freaky.

By the way, since most Tesla's have wide 21's (21 winter tires are quite ineffective) the Model X must have been dropped there by helicopter.

Freaky

From 'Popular Mechanics'...

The Shelburne, VT Police Department tells Popular Mechanics that the owner of the vehicle took their Tesla onto the ice to go fishing, and that at some point during the expedition the car hit a rock. The car started making unusual noises, and shortly after that caught fire. No one was hurt.

The specific cause of the fire is as-yet unknown. People on Tesla forums who saw the crazy pictures began to speculate about insurance fraud or some other oddball explanation, but the most likely explanation would be a battery failure. If damaged, lithium-ion batteries can rapidly discharge their stored energy in the form of heat, leading to an inferno. The bigger the battery, the bigger the fire. Teslas necessarily have giant battery back, so if the car suffers sufficiently sever impact, it can go up in flames—as plenty of previous Tesla incidents have illustrated.
