Whoa, this car should smoke just about everything.

correct me if i'm reading this wrong, but how the hell is a 5.0L V10 going to fit into the bay of a 3 series?

We shouldn't "forget the M3" until we know how much this thing costs. A lot more than an M3, I'm guessing.

I asked "HOW do they fit the V10 in the 3 series?"

I never said i knew everything, hence the "correct me if i'm reading this wrong". I didn't make a moronic statement about this car that is not supported by any hard facts or information of any kind.

I just find it hard to believe that a 5.0L V10 (the same size as the engine in the much larger M5) would fit into a car where the largest engine currently is 3.0L and the M3 will have a 4.0L engine. I didn't think the 3 series could handle the displacement of a 5.0L engine, seeing as the engine bay is only about 4000 cu in and the V10 is 5000cc...

But since you're an engineering genius fanboy, i'm sure you know how they figured it out, right?

"For the V10 to fit in the engine bay, all four inner walls have been pushed outward a bit and the engine allowed to sit as far back in the compartment as physically possible. The headers are specially made for the V10 so as to let it sit low enough under the hood, as well."

How will it pass safety tests? There needs to be some room between the engine and the firewall so you don't get crushed.

NARuner, actuall block size and engine displacement are 2 (very) diferent thing.

Hartge has also fit the V10 from the M5/6 into the current 3 series sedan. It's the Hartge H50 V10

They have also put the V8 from the previous generation M5 into the e46 M3, the Z4, and the X5.

I saw that the Hartge H50 retails at $120,000. Unless you really want the V10, you can tune an E46 M3 to almost 500 horses for about 20-25K over the price of the car.

This is cool, but too expensive to be practical or competitive.
