First Batch Of $35,000 Base Model 3s Are Rolling Off the Assembly Line
Less than a week after having launched the new base versions of the Model 3, Tesla has already produced the first batch of Model 3 vehicles with the standard battery.

The long-awaited standard version of the Model 3 is not only available to order, but it’s now also rolling off the assembly line.

Electrek was able to confirm with a source familiar with Tesla’s production that the automaker produced an initial batch of over 500 standard Model 3 vehicles over the last two days.

Meanwhile just as this is posted the New York Times puts out an article that is rather pessimistic about Tesla and the moves it has recently made. They end the article with a sentence about the stock at $192. One would think the Times would be a Tesla booster.

For those invested in TSLA - it is my opinion that you can look to the chart of Valeant (since absorbed into Bausch & Lomb in May 2018).

What Caused Valeant's Epic 90% Plunge?
http://fortune.com/2016/03/20/valeant-timeline-scandal/

The facts are slightly different but, IMO, there will be a similar "Fortune Magazine" article about Tesla as its stock continues to slide. The valuation is just not supported by the financial realities, IMO.

Bankrupt? Maybe/Maybe Not?

Stock goes up from here - look at the Valeant article and draw your own conclusions, the bad news just keeps piling up like a winters worth of plowed snow in a Wyoming Wal-Mart parking lot.

Elon also stated this week that full production of the model 3 would not happen until sometime this summer, which on a real calendar means late fall. What happened this week is pilot production.

Tesla stock price down 30 percent from mid-january at 277 on its way to sub 190 and far away from the financing Elon said he had lined up at 450.

"First Batch Of $35,000 Base Model 3s Are Rolling Off the Assembly Line"...and Tesla loses $20K on each one.

I suspect that there will only, ever, be this batch of 500, $35,000 Model 3's produced.

Like so much about Tesla, perhaps the only place these 500 $35,000 Model 3's will find homes, will be in the garages in a Potemkin Village. I'll bet they are all sold/leased to employees.

"Have a great day" to you too!

Hopefully you are not waiting for your $35,000 Model 3 delivery - you will be waiting a long time. In fact, you should consider getting your deposit returned if you can't afford a more expensive Model 3.

By the way, did someone say the 500 unit production run was a "pilot batch"? Since when has Tesla EVER said they do 'pilot production'? The cars come out of the factory and go to customers - its unclear how much if any, testing is done on them.

There was a 15% margin on the midrange Model 3, which sold for $43k with premium upgrades. That means the base cost on that Model was $36.5k. The base version takes out the heated seats, adds cheaper fabric, uses fewer speakers, and has 12 fewer KWh of battery. Let's be conservative and call that $2k of costs, that already puts the car at $34.5k without accounting for the drop in sales costs.

They will definitely make some margin off the base car, although it probably won't be much for some time.

Not that every car comes equipped with autopilot hardware and it is software locked, so the $3k and $5k options are 100% margin during and post sale.

I said it was pilot production and you are correct, that is giving credit to Tesla they don't deserve. It was just to point out the doublespeak of Musk. In the same day he bragged about the first 500 cheap Model 3s rolling off the assembly line he said full production on this car would not begin until "sometime this summer." Which could mean fall or winter.

And the 35k car actually costs $36.2 including docs and delivery. It certanly shouldn't have delivery fees if someone wants to grab it at the factory.

This is a legal requirement for ALL cars sold in the US, look it up.
