Sources Reveal Next Civic Type R Could Be A Performance Hybrid

Unnamed insiders tell Pistonheads that the next Civic Type R would use some level of electrification, but another high-ranking employee went on the record saying the next gen wouldn't be fully electric.

"We think it’d be quite easy to achieve Type R performance with a full EV right now, but Type R isn’t just about performance," Kohei Hitomi, Honda E Prototype project manager, told Pistonheads. "It’s also about handling, operation, and driveability. We don’t think it’s as simple as replacing that with electric power. That’s not the right direction for Type R."

Shouldn't this be the strategy on Acura's side of the house, to coincide with their Hybrids, esp. the NSX?

How about making the next Civic Type R less of an eyesore?

Right. Well aware. My point being, this should be an article about an ILX Type-S with a hybrid performance powertrain.

Could it also be attractive instead of ZDX ugly?

The ZDX is an atrocity.

Did you buy one when they were offering 40% off to get rid of them?

I absolutely loved the ZDX. To me, it just stood out against everything else at the time, but it wasn't garish in the way that so many Asian designs are today. Definitely looks better than the GLC Coupe or X4. And the interior is possibly the best that Acura has produced, ever and better than many interiors today.

I wonder what Honda will do for a s2000 predecessor, hybrid too most likely.
