Porsche Faces Overwhelming Demand For Taycan EV
Porsche AG will increase production of the Taycan after more than 20,000 potential buyers registered to purchase the brand’s first electric car, matching the entire annual output initially earmarked for the four-door sedan.

“The overwhelming interest in the Taycan shows us that our customers and fans are just as excited about the first Porsche electric athlete as we are,” Porsche sales chief Detlev von Platen said Friday in a statement. “We’ve therefore increased our production capacities.”

The Porsche Taycan is a good example of where the real demographics for the EV segment lie - with luxury-oriented, premium class customers (who own homes with a garage for easy/safe charging).

Aside from fleet use (in NYC fleet/govt Volts/Bolts/Leafs are everywhere) IMO the only retail customers who care about EV's can spend $60K to $100K on their vehicle.

Since Tesla has basically abandoned the luxury EV segment (the Model S is 6 yrs old now) the Macan will wipe up the whole segment.

Porsches are a premium product, deservedly so. Porsches sell. What more needs to be said.

Well what do you expect? You have a "real car company" with a proven pedigree offering a sexy "gottahavit" TM product (unlike most BEV) with actual dealerships and the ability to service the cars in a timely fashion.

Tesla was the pioneer but like most "pioneers" they were killed off by the Indians only to have the second wave of settlers come along and capitalize off of the fruits of their labour with much less effort and resistance. Tesla abondoned (ran out of deposit money) to refresh the Model S and Porsche will happily steal that candy from the baby. Holy cliches!!!

The Taycan will sell (awful name notwithstanding) but sadly it will not look as good as the Mission E concept. As well having the opportunity to wait and see what it all about, Tesla can replace the Model S with a new offering that may outperform the Taycan. Stay tuned.

Well duh. Lol

Both the Taycan & Mission E will sell well. Especially if their performance holds up & improves.

How much you wanna bet that the people with deposits down will be satisfied up front rather than on the ass end like disreputable Tesla.

@MD How long will Porsche wait after the Taycan is launched before they cancel the Panamera sedan and wagon?

I'm wondering how long it will take for the Taycan to seriously cut into Tesla sales.
