STUD OR DUD? 2020 Golf Mk8 Caught Uncovered From All Angles

While VW did not reveal the all-new 8th generation 2020 Golf at this week’s Geneva Motor Show as many of us anticipated, we believe we can make it up with the best and most revealing photos of the popular compact model yet.

It’s virtually undisguised, as only the front and rear lights have some distracting fake decals. However, the production car will use similar lighting units on both ends, so styling-wise, we don’t anticipate any surprises between now and its unveiling later this year.

Someone call GM and Ford, they think people don't buy cars anymore...

People don't buy Golfs in the USA. It's a marginal seller.

You're right:
same old boring styling
same old lack of quality
same old lack of reliability
same old high cost of repairs
same old customer anger

I wish they would have gone more in the direction of the Scirocco. This upright hatchback design is played out by VW. Not sure it really makes it that much more practical either.

Agree, although in their biggest markets the upright design sells. However, there are more interesting elements in the Scirocco that could add some flavor to this. Perhaps the GTI will bring something.

Who said anything about going 2door. Taking styling cues and direction from the Scirocco does not mandate going 2door

That's ironic because the Scirocco would have been a great GTI but it was no Scirocco.

This is a family car for the vast majority of the buyers. A commuter car for others. A tiny slice buy this car to be a compact sports car. It is designed to serve the largest audience for the car. Every other use takes a back seat. If you ran VW you would do the same thing.

@MD- 927M VW Golf units sold world wide in 2017. Likely more in 2018. VW is doing the same thing BMW does the the 3 Series and Porsche with the 911. Change, but not too much. There is simply too much riding on it to make it much different than it appears. No matter what you do, it will look pretty much the same.

I don't give rat's ass about the world market. When cares about socialists and the third world? VWS is LAME in the USA because of lame products. If Europe wants mediocre cars, let them buy Golfs.

That is disgusting. It looks several generations old. The Golf will not be long for the US market. Sales are already terrible here and this will make them worse.

Roof line falls off towards rear seriously reducing interior space and height clearance.
It appears to be more sedan than 'Golf.' This is a mistake by VW.

A Golf is a terrible car and nothing has changed.

Again-Other than being slightly longer the care looks less changed than a Porsche 911. It is still a box(a bit longer box)with origami trim. The headlights and tailamps are barely changed. This is conservatism styling gone amuck. Again and I've mentioned this before multiple times-VW would be better served to bring a vehicle like the T-Roc to the USA. It is simply a better looking car and offers available AWD. Since there is already a T-Roc R now out in Europe to me it would be a no brainer. Golf sales are at a trickle in the US. They are at Fiat 500 levels. What part of this does VW not understand. And this brings me to smoothing else. VW owns Seat and Skoda. News flash VW-both seem to have better designers than you do. Maybe its time bring those brands in and see if they will stick against the wall like gum. Dowdy styling is no longer in. Even the automaton vanilla people who buy most of the vehicles in the US are actually starting to like a little styling flare.

The TRoc would easily sell double what the Golf does here.
