DRIVEN + VIDEO: Doug DeMuro Goes DEEP On The All-new BMW X7 And His Verdict Is...Surprising
When it comes to car reviews, people just love Doug DeMuro. He's become a YouTube sensation, really.

Having met him on the floor of the 2018 New York Auto Show, I can attest. He is the real deal and a genuinely good guy.

That said, his latest review features the all-new BMW X7. This is one of the most talked about vehicles of the year and that's because BMW finally delivered a proper three-row sport-utility vehicle. And, as usual, DeMuro is thorough in his walkthrough of the vehicle.

Where you might be surprised though is where he ranks it in his evaluation — the Doug Score.

I won't give it away, you'll just have to see for yourself, below.

The 2019 BMW X7 is the newest full-size luxury SUV -- and the best. Today I'm reviewing the BMW X7 to show you why the X7 is so great -- and I'm taking you on a full tour of the X7, to show you all the cool technology and features of the new BMW X7.

Most people find him to be an annoying cheerleader actually.

after learning more about the X7, it makes the XT6 features & overall design make total sense. and they both matchup generally with the GLS. except GM hadnt announced more up uplevel versions of the XT6 (V-sport/V-series).

loaded with tons of interior content, strong V6 is what's hot on the market now. its expensive but not too pricey - they're going to sell a lot of them.

The XT6 will be a footnote. It's $10K too high priced for a Chevy XT6/Cadillac Traverse. The Lincoln Aviator will trash the living hell out of it.

The XT6 should be what Cadillac uses to battle the RX rather than the XT5. The XT5 should battle the NX. The XT4 should be $5K below that level. And all Buicks in that price range should be axed is Cadillac is to be saved.

I hear you, dumpsty, but I do think Cadillac blew it with the XT6.

The exterior is forgettable, the interior is meh at best.

Maybe I am wrong but it looks like the Aviator is the obvious choice if you want to go American.

And against the X7? No chance in hell.

typical negativity from md

We'll see, Agent00R. MD is being very negative.

Right now, if we parked both the XT6 & X7 side-by-side, they'd cast a very similar shadow. And we know consumers love a big Cadillac SUV, this will fill that very empty space under the Escalade quite nicely. We really can't let industry fanatics distract us from how the "average" consumers think vastly differently than how the vehicle specs stack up. The high-style & descent performance is where the "meat" of the sales will come from.

Lincoln has dialed in their Ecoboost engine set for the return of the Aviator. And that's kinda smart. High style with good performance options. I think the Aviator, XT6, X7 all have some good styling queues for their particular vehicle class.

I honestly don't think BMW will sell a lot of X7M's IF they make them. Most X7's will have some type of V6 from NA to TT. And that's the only area I think the XT6 is weak on - engine options. Otherwise consumers will select whatever interior features/options available & be very happy.

The X7 will do well. The Aviator should do well as well...with similar eqipment it is over $15K cheaper than the BMW. The XT6 is a complete dud when shopped against the X7/Aviator/GLS, and it will only see well if it is at MDX/RX-L price levels. The XT6's FWD/Transverse platform and engine are outclassed big time by the X7/Aviator/GLS.

The X7 destroys the XT6... GM should be embarrassed that this is something they call a luxury vehicle. I’m embarrassed for them. Lincoln clearly understands American Luxury... GM has lost touch, it’s mgt is clueless and I predict (along w Matt) they are positioning themselves for acquisition...

I don't think MD is being negative about the Cadillac XT6. This was such a badge job they did not even use the rear end from the XT5 which at least has some character. No, just new taillights on a generic GM platform and it is priced higher than the Lincoln.

Indeed. Some people are #PositivePollyannas and live in a world where no criticism of anything can be voiced and if one does they scream and call it racist. You can't reason with stupid people. You can only encourage them to buy a Tesla and trust Autopilot with their lives. #ProblemSolved.

The X7 will do good business. The XT6 is already an afterthought. It’s more a competitor to the MDX, XC90, Q7, RX-L and QX60, and they all move a pretty good number of units and I doubt the Caddie will affect that.
My feeling is that the X7 will sell about 3000 units for the first 3 months then level off at a consistent 2200-2500 units per month, similar to the GLS.

BMW X7 is the most talked car in this year. No options without it to choose cars.

BMW X7 should enjoy its day in the sun now - once the new MB GLS is released, customers will flock to that.

If the GLS builds on the beautiful new GLE350/450 BMW needs to worry. The GLE is a wonderful product that is very handsome and very well-packaged. BMW's are never well-packaged and its surprising how little usable room there is inside, relative to the outside. Go sit in a new X5 - its tiny inside and feels claustrophobic.

Although the X7 has a nice interior, the styling and proportions are way off and the result is a vehicle that is not good looking.

I think Doug DeMuro is gunning for a free BMW from...

"Crevier BMW, the largest BMW dealer in North America and the only one that gets all the good BMW stuff"

....according to Doug. Unbiased journalism this is not.

"Crevier BMW, the largest BMW dealer in North America and the only one that gets all the good BMW stuff"

Having worked for another BMW dealer Doug is right. BMW NA plays favorites.

I'm a little surprised people are talking about the XT6 here.

Other than an "X" and a one-number difference, the BMW and the Cadillac are about as far apart as you can get in this segment.

The X7 is a segment leader. BMW put a lot of effort in to this vehicle, much more than I thought they would. Carmakers, even luxury car makers, tend to phone in their SUVs relative to their cars. This is because they know the buying public will eat them up no matter what, so they don't really have to try that hard.

This is slowly changing, as more and more options become available and force competition.

Regardless, while the X7 was a careful design and engineering study, the XT6 was the result of a backyard barbecue in Warren, MI where people were talking around a cooler full of Miller Light, and someone said "oh shit, don't we need another SUV??? We can do that by Wednesday, right?"

Agree, GM didn’t even phone the XT6 in, they texted it... is that how one rebuilds a once great brand? They should be embarrassed and then fired...

Cadillac is also killing the XTS which routinely outsells their other sedans. They should kill their RWD sedans, redo the XTS into a new Seville, build the Escala as an EV, and move their crossovers down one pay grade. #success
