Where Next? Infiniti Courting Disaster, Pulls Out Of Europe

Infiniti is pulling out of Western Europe after Nissan’s premium arm was no longer considered a viable business here.

Production of the firm’s two UK-built models, the Q30 and QX30, will end at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in July. The company will cease all European operations from early 2020.

The move is part of a wider global restructuring plan for Infiniti. It will shift its focus to North America and China, and continue its smaller operations in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

That's what happens when you do a half hearted attempt at building a brand.

After their "re-branding" strategy attempts this isn't a surprise. The only cars they really sell now are the SUV's, but they are lacking in tech and performance compared to other cars out there in the segment.

They should built they sedan concept with a GTR engine, it was a concept a few years ago. If they had a solid performance division/brand they might have had better sales.

They have nothing to compete against the high performance sedans and coupes of the other brands, so this is not surprising. No M3, M4, C63S, RS5 competitor. Even Lexus has the track version of the RC-F now.

Not surprised. They're committing sins equal in severity, if not in nature, as Cadillac.

Cadillac has a lineup focused in the wrong places and not executed to a high enough standard. Infiniti has an ancient aging lineup with hardly any focus at all.

Neither of those is going to cut it on the home turf of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Porsche, or hell even VW, or some of the higher-end French makes.

Before we pile on to Johann, it seems both Cadillac and Infiniti had the same problem with him. He comes in with big plans, including a naming overhaul. You can agree or disagree with them, but they are different from business as usual, which has been a failure. First Infiniti, and now Cadillac, look at what Johann proposes and say "um...actually, that sounds really really hard, and expensive, what if we just keep doing what we've been doing and hope no one notices?"
