The Flood Gates Open After China Lifts Model 3 Suspension
China's customs authority has lifted its suspension on imports of Tesla's Model 3, an official in the authority's news department told Reuters on Thursday.

"We can confirm that the warning notice on Tesla has been canceled," said the official, who only gave his surname as Tao.

Tesla declined to comment. Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters earlier on Thursday that the suspension had been lifted after Tesla made the necessary rectifications.

it is terribly premature to use "floodgates." Perhaps, the faucet is no longer turned off.

I love the hypocrisy of the Socialist_Fascist brigade who on one hand would mandate the the government should buy us all Teslas, then they lose their sh!t over an American product being cleared for sale and claim it's something that evil Trump did. #moronic

I'm pretty certain that the "approval" process in China, does not function like that in the US or EuroZone.

Either some money or some influence or, yes, a phone call from the right person is what it takes to get a "Suspension" lifted. Funny, totalitarian word, "suspension".

This was not something that was cleared up by refiling some paperwork.

We had an office in China. Every (EVERY!!) western company that moves into a new office in China will receive a surprise "Fire Inspection" within a month or two of moving into the new office. Such "Fire Inspection" involved EVERY person leaving the office while "Fire Inspectors" spend about 6 hours in the office "checking" for fire prevention (oh, and bugging the whole office). That's how China rolls.

@mre30 you are right on. I wonder if Tesla had to submit all their IP to China in order to do business there. I remember for Toyota to sell the Prius they had to hand over all the IP on their hybrid cars.

China had leverage over Musk and used it. I am sure he had to give up something substantial to lift the suspension.
