REVEALED! The Tesla Model Y Is OFFICIAL — VIDEO + INFO Posted HERE!
Tonight was a momentous occasion for Tesla as Elon Musk appeared to reveal another electric vehicle. This time it was a sport-utility vehicle dubbed the Model Y.

It does look awfully squat from where I am sitting.

Tesla Model Y

Joining the ranks of the Model 3, it will be a reasonably priced Tesla. That said, let's get down to the details.

The long range version, which gets 300 miles per charge, arrives fall 2020 and will start at $47,000*. An all-wheel drive version with a dual motor set up will go for $51,000*. If you'd like even more grunt, you can step into a Performance version for $60,000*.

A standard range version, which will achieve 230 miles per charge, is slated to arrive spring 2021 and will have a base price of $39,000*.

*These prices do NOT include title, taxes and fees.

Something interesting to note: The Model Y can seat seven.

See the highlight video below, which sums up tonight's launch event.

This is the Tesla Model Y, the electric carmaker’s new compact SUV due out in 2020. It has a range of 300 miles, seating for seven, is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It’s Elon Musk’s fifth car ever to hit the road, and the company’s second attempt at a mass-market electric vehicle.

Not the most beautiful thing in the world but you know it's going to sell sell sell.

Damage control on what? This will sell like crazy. Think I like the Model 3 more minus the awesome roof on the Y.

Stats are pretty much everything I expected. Starting price is $39k, 10% less range and 10% less acceleration vs. the Model 3. I wasn't expecting an option for 7 seats or 4x the cargo space of the Model 3, that's pretty impressive. Overall this seems even more practical than the 3.

I was hoping for some surprises, think they played it a little safe but that is probably smart given the Model 3 ramp.

How could it possibly fit 7 seats?

Looks like third row is for children only. Small children.

That truly is the biggest con of it. The third row will be like a 911 backseat

Say what you will, but the Bread and butter Audi Q5 is going to take a massive hit. So too the GLA and X5 probably. Even the Macan might take a beating as the lower-priced Y Performance model will just smoke the Porsche. The e-Tron and iPace now seem even more totally obsolete already in efficency and range compared to the Y.

But the marginally lower efficiency and range compared to my Model 3 Long Range means I’m still loving my present Tesla.

Indeed. This needed to be a breakout product that shows Tesla is stretching further to own the EV game, but all they have done is to create a vehicle that many will be unable to distinguish from a Model 3.

Actually 35 years old...it's a 133% scale Honda CRX. People will look freakishly small inside.

I see nothing special. It's just a high roofed hatchback. If this had been an upright crossover, it would have been a major move by Tesla. As it stands it's an ugly nothing.

7 seats or real cargo capacity? hmmmm looks like sucker bait to me

Lol. Pay $2500 now and get it at 2021 at earliest. Gotta keep the ponzi scheme going.

We all know how the deposit scam worked for the 3. People who had no deposit and expensive versions of the 3 got cars ahead of those who waited in line for mid and low priced versions. What a joke.

The hottest selling CUVs all have the 2 box design with different degrees of slope at the rear. That design offers more cargo room and better rear visibility. Their fastback derivative versions sell, but in much lower volume. The Model Y competes with the derivative products. It isn't a breakthrough vehicle for Tesla. It will sell, taking sales from the Model 3, since its more practical. Shades of the Honda Crosstour.

Wow...all the haters are coming out. Im not an EV fan, but this thing will be a big success if/when Tesla can deliver. BMW/Audi/MB will all see a huge hit in their compact SUV sales, which are priced in the same ballpark. Cargo space in the (2 row) model Y will probably be as good as the X3/Q5/GLC despite the sloping roof...the lack of a gas tank below the load floor will free up some space for cargo.,

A Model X left in the dryer too long. Maybe it won't look as hideous as the X because its bulbous visage won't be as apparent. Kind of has an Acura ZDX feel to it a bit (for good or bad). It will sell, no doubt.

Tesla stock has dropped 3 percent today as a result of this totally unimpressive model reveal. And the Tesla fanboys on this site have to quit mentioning to $39 K base price. Not one model 3 has sold yet at its quoted $35 K base and full production on that won't start until late summer. By the time the Y roles off the assembly line it will have several more impressive competitors.
Me can sales will not be affected.

Hilarious. Model Y was the plan to save the company. But it's just a Model 3 hatchback. Stock price down about 4% on the announcement. Obviously the market is not impressed.

Tesla gave it the correct name ..... Y am I not impresses. I am not a Nissan fanboy but they go about selling the Leaf without any fanfare. One more thing about the Leaf >>> Biggest selling electric car in the world ...without Elon Musk BS attached to every sale.

It may sell, but it will cannibalize Model 3 sales. So, its contribution to Tesla will be marginal.

Tesla stock down 5 percent today, nearly 30 percent since late December. Roh-roh.
Got to agree that the biggest market is the two-box smallish crossover. Why did Tesla design the far less pratical fastback AND with 7 seats. Big miss.
