Toyota To Invest $749 Million In Five US Factories

Toyota Motor North America on Thursday said it plans to invest $749 million and add about 600 jobs at plants in five states as part of a U.S. manufacturing expansion that now is expected to total $13 billion by 2022.

The automaker plans to increase engine capacity in Alabama, add production of the RAV4 hybrid and Lexus ES 300h hybrid in Kentucky, and double hybrid transaxle capacity in West Virginia. It also plans to raise output of castings at plants operated by its Bodine Aluminum subsidiary in Tennessee and Missouri.

@MD- Likely. But undeserved. Toyota is doing right by their customers and investing in America. You can pick which companies will be the last ones standing in 10-15 years, but Toyota will certainly be one of them and likely the healthiest. Maybe VW/Ford and likely a large Chinese automaker will round out the top 3.

Why doesn't Toyota invest in fresh new truck design which is desperately needed.
The Tocoma is a 20 year old obsolete truck.
The Tundra is released in 2000 and is almost 20 years old with the same design.
Only the blind and foolish purchase Toyota out dated, obsolete trucks.

skytop: Have to disagree with you about fresh design. You are correct about the design of Tacoma / Tundra not being fresh. That said, Tacoma is the #1 selling truck in it's class. Tundra certainly has their loyal customers. This coming from a Ford guy. My last 4 trucks have been Ford.

Bad news for Tundra safety test:

The Toyota Tundra failed the
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety test and earned a “poor” rating.

The Tundra experienced serious intrusion, as much as 15 inches at the lower right section of the passenger compartment, the insurance group reported. The Ford F-150, by comparison, had just 5 inches of intrusion in the same area.

The Toyota also had intrusion of more than a foot at the lower door-hinge pillar.
