DRIVEN + VIDEO: Did Land Rover MISS An Opportunity To Further Along The 2nd Gen Evoque's Design?
So, Land Rover has launched an all-new Range Rover Evoque. But before you start saying "it's not all-new, what are YOU talking about Agent 00R," I highly suggest you watch the highly informative review below.

That's because Land Rover has done A LOT with the second-gen Evoque.

Well, except one thing. It didn't do much to its design.

While the Evoque was a brilliantly designed machine out of the gate, it's starting to look a touch dated. Sure, the evolutionized design that aligns it with the Velar helps but it's kind of like putting a band-aid over a stab wound.

That's the problem with high fashion. It goes out of style faster.

That said, I've got to ask: Did Land Rover MISS an opportunity to give the second-gen Evoque a much fresher take? What say you, Spies?

The second-generation Range Rover Evoque gets a new model platform, new mild hybrid powertrains, unique visibility-boosting onboard technology and a more refined new look. Matt Saunders travelled to Greece to find out how much the car's driving experience has changed, and how well it's set to continue the sales success of its forebear. Subscribe now:

Good points in your lead in. I agree they should make the Evoque the fashionista of the range and keep it fun. It needs to break the mold every time they put out a totally new model. I also needs the 300hp motor in everything but the very base models at least here in the US. They should have an even more fun model that would mimic a Focus RS underneath... the SVR variant.

Totally agree! Old Evoque with crisp fresh hip styling brought new younger and young at heart customers to the brand though it could benefit greatly from more power and handling. A boulevard cruiser to be seen in fashion statement not an off road grinder. A look at me type of car. New one a missed opportunity by being overly conservative. Company just dug itself a deeper hole.

Tata is now going through a bad time - and they simply do not have the money to be as adventurous as YOU would like them to be.

Yes - it might be time for a new Styling direction - but Can they afford to alienate those who like the current styling?

The new car is largely a mild facelift of the old car and the old car is carried over. Making it look more like the Velour is doing it no favors. Land Rover/Range Rover has a confusion of overlapping models all of which look like the same brand but we are to believe that Land Rover and Range Rover are separate brands.

It is a facelift in the looks department, however the platform is all new and will be used on a lot of Land Rover Jaguar models in the future. The fact that it is a new platform gave them even more freedom to totally try something new with the styling. Unfortunately they chose the aging Hollywood movie star solution.

Actually, the platform is NOT "all new".

I think the platform is still based on the Ford Escape.

From every source reporting on the car as well as from Jaguar/Land Rover "The 2019 Evoque rides on an all-new “mixed-material” platform labelled Premium Transverse Architecture, a Jaguar Land Rover group design capable of housing the various electrified powertrains that will come soon to Jaguars and Land Rovers with transverse engines."

Jaguar-LR does not have enough resources to rollout anything new. Its why, aside from the Ford Escape-based Evoque and Discovery Sport, every other LR product looks exactly the same. JLR is next in line for consolidation/absorption.

If Diesel-gate never happened to VW, VW would have been the logical buyer but they now don't have the money.

Look for a Hyundai Evoque soon.

The "all-new 'mixed-material' platform labelled Premium Transverse Architecture" is just PR bullsh!t. The Evoque is on the same platform as the nearly gone Ford Escape.

Amazing, you are so smart while the rest of the automotive world is being totally fooled by the PR bullshit. Get off it you are wrong, just admit it...

Amazing how you can discern this while all the professional reviewers are fooled.
