BMW's MASSIVE X7 Delivers In All Categories - But Is It Too Big For It's Own Good?

Have we reached peak grille yet? The X7 is BMW’s biggest and most luxurious SUV, and it wants to be noticed. Even the BMW badge on the nose had to be made bigger to match this thing’s outsize swagger.

It’s not just about wedging in as many people as possible. BMW after all makes a cheaper seven-seater in the rather timid form of the 2 Series Gran Tourer. The car to take your gran touring in.

The X7 by contrast is about luxury. It takes themes from the facelifted 7 Series and the 8er, to make BMW’s three-flagship fleet. They want us to see this top-end trio as a separate high-end luxury series.

If I need a larger SUV, I'd much rather have one this size vs. the Navigator or Escalade. Personally, I'd choose the GLS, though.

This could easily be a better draw than the X5. I could actually see people going for a base X7 rather than a tarted up X5. This is the product BMW needed 10 years ago.

BMW is addressing a huge void in its lineup but the bigger question is BMW too late to the segment? Mercedes-Benz has sold its flagship GLS for many years. I think BMW might be too late to the segment as Mercedes-Benz has gained a large following of customers who wanted an extra-large SUV when BMW didn't offer it.

Many X5 owners will move up to the X7. X7's interior looks great. X7>GLS>Q7

Well, I have driven it and it does not drive like a big vehicle. Just like the 7 series. Agile, quick, awesome braking and still fun to drive. I like that it is just as wide as the X5 and the seat controls are very simple to use.
Just being picky, but I actually like the chrome on the outside, just wish the luxury line had a black headliner option.
