BMW Plays Catch Up with 12 New EV Models By 2025
Prepare for a lot more electric BMWs in the coming years, as the company just announced its intentions to offer at least 12 new electric models by the year 2025. These would include the i3 hatchback, Mini Electric, i4 sedan, as well as the iX3 and iNext crossovers. The pure EVs would be joined by 13 plug-in hybrids, including pluggable versions of the 3 Series, 7 Series, X3, and X5. In total, we're looking at 25 electrified Bimmers in the next six years.

At the end of last year, BMW had already apparently delivered over 350,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It plans to hit half a million before 2019 ends.

Future could be odd. Biggest firms do the R+D and sell the BEV skateboard chassis to any mfg who wants it. These mfg's build their own bodies to go on top. The software they run on is compatible with the "highway software" and is provided by 3-4 big firms. A lot of sameness under the skin but there will still exist a lot of differences to separate the brands, price levels and add value for the consumer.

We have known this for a few years now. BMW has always stated that a bulk of their fleet with being fully electric by 2025. They aren't late to the party, they are just waiting for bodystyle changes to implement the EV segment. It isn't cost effective to completely revamp an outgoing bodystyle just to add batteries.

Given that BMW is stumbling right and left at the moment, I'm not expecting much. Toyota will have swallowed them whole within 5 years.
