DRIVEN + VIDEO: The All-new BMW X7 WOWs In ALL Rows, See Where It Falters Though...
The BMW X7 has been rising up the charts as of late. According to the latest reports it's one of the most heavily researched all-new vehicles.

Pretty impressive!

Although Agent 001 and I have been scratching our head for YEARS wondering why the Bavarians took so long to give the people what they want, it's finally here. So, how does it fair out?

From what I've seen the first impressions have been overwhelmingly positive provided you get past its MASSIVE front grilles. To better understand what the lovefest is all about, check out this Carwow review, seen below.

Here it is, BMW’s all-new 7-seater SUV, the X7! It’s the largest SUV BMW has ever created, and Mat’s going to take it on a 250 mile test drive to let you know what it’s like to live with, whether you’re the driver or a passenger! But is it the best 7-seater available today? Stick with Mat on his American road-trip to find out!

X7 - 206.6" long
Toyota Sienna - 200.2" long

Big on the outside, cramped on the inside.

The 7 Series doesn't need suicide doors, BUT the concept looked 100% production feasible just as the concept of the 8 Series looked feasible. BMW dumbed the 7 Series down to the point that it looks a decade old. The 8 Series looks like an awkward Mustang interpretation.

the suicide doors are a great idea MD

If you're into pointless gimmicks then yes suicide doors and Tesla's parakeet doors are great, but otherwise for sane, down-to-earth people, both are pretty stupid.

Excellent review. This is going to sell very well for BMW, but I think it spells doom for the 7 Series. There simply is no reason to buy a 7 Series when the X7 is such a superior vehicle. It's odd how BMW got this incredibly right when the rest of their line is so incredibly wrong in execution.

I don't agree that it's superior to the 7-Series.

I do agree that it's (surprisingly) on par with it.

That being said, you're right in that it will almost immediately cannibalize sales of the 7-Series, at the same or greater rate than it does its true competitors, like Range Rover or Mercedes.

I honestly think this will be a bigger threat to the X5 than the 7 series which already has low sales given the S Class dominance and falling sedan market.

The X5 on the other hand has always been the biggest utility vehicle one could buy from Bimmer except for now...will be interesting to see how they coexist without major incentives on the X5

The market will prove that the X7 will hands down be what drives out of the BMW dealer when $100K is plunked down.

BMW will likely skew the X5 away from the X7 in the product availability on the lot and increase is low and mid model sales.

If it takes sales from the X5 all the better for BMW as this is a more profitable vehicle. I am sure they took this into account.

If BMW had executed the 7 Series as the concept showed, with suicide doors and an edgy body, then it would be flying off the shelves and it would not compete. The problem is styling at BMW. This SUV is nice. In person I actually like the front. But the entire thing is tired styling--been there done that seen it and move on.

A car with a backwards reading tachometer put the Kibosh on the vehicle.
What was BMW thinking or what they really NOT THINKING.

This will (1) be of ZERO importance to the target audience, who (2) will find the feature cool.

As good as it is, people are kind of sick of their MB GL/GLS'. The biggest 'conquest' will be the GL/GLS. The second will be the X5.

I'm not sure how many 7-series cross-shoppers there will be. I saw a preview of the new 7, and in person it is very impressive; not enough to juice sales but it looks the part and again, will be something different for the chauffeur-sedan segment. You either want a sedan or you don't. Or else you just buy both.

BMW is finally competitive on the high-end. X7 will be a big seller. Its kind of ugly though.

The best full sized luxury execution from BMW.
This will be more competitive in the full size SUV segment than the 7 Series is against full size sedans.
Well done.

This is a formidable vehicle. The only real negative I've seen/read about is that honking grille. The rear styling is a bit underwhelming, but otherwise, this is a winner. Is it the best executed car for the brand? In terms of its specific segment, probably. But the GLS is being completely redesigned shortly. If Benz was smart, they would start sending out teasers for the new GLS so folks don't immediately jump on the X7 bandwagon as the latest and greatest in the segment.

In person, the grille works quite well. In person, it much more attractive than in the pictures.
