Mirror Mirror On The Wall You Will Never Guess What Car In Germany Has The Highest Resale Of All

The Tesla Model S has outranked a number of Germany’s best luxury sedans in terms of resale value, according to the Schwacke list, which analyzes and ranks the approximate residual value of used motor vehicles in the German market. Following the Model S is the Porsche Panamera, and third on the list is the Audi A8.

Schwacke experts listed a three-year-old Tesla Model S with a mileage of 60,000 km (37,000 miles) with an impressive 60% residual value. In comparison, a Porsche Panamera was listed with a residual value of 57.4% after three years, and an Audi A8 was listed with a 54.1% residual value after a 36-month period. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, one of the luxury market’s most iconic cars, was listed with a 51.9% residual value after three years.

When you've been the only EV on the German market for three years of course you are going to have the highest resale value. Simple supply and demand. Check these numbers again after Porsche's EV is on the market for three years before reading much into these numbers.

“Mirror Mirror On The Wall” Seriously

Of course, this info is from a Tesla fan page, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not accurate. My guess rarity and trendiness a playing a big part in this. Comparing a Panamera and S Class is laughable. Apart from speed and style, both cars are worlds away in quality, luxury, and panache. Remember the Tesla S is a premium priced car, not a premium car.

But seriously “Mirror Mirror On The Wall”

You're right, the Model S is a much better car in almost every way.

"Remember the Tesla S is a premium priced car not a premium car"...a resounding endorsement to buy one if I ever heard one. Sounds like "Musk speak" to me.

How many Model Ss have been sold in Germany? Dozens? Hundreds? versus how many of the others - tens of thousands. The comparison is invalid. This Teslarati fanboy site continuously tries to bend information to fit their conclusions. If tesla was really all the fanboys want to believe, there would be no need for this statistical gymnastics.

Sanjose, you are cherry picking data as usual. You are quoting 13 month old data when Tesla was filling pipeline. According to "Car sales statistics" Tesla model S sales year to date in 2019 is under 200. Ouch, that has to hurt.
It is typical of Tesla that once a backorder demand is filled sales crater.

This reminds of when Consumer Reports ranked TESLA Model S as the highest ranking car, the "best car" ever and look where it sits now. Time will tell with all these new EVs coming to the market.

Yup, look where it sits now.. outselling all of its direct competitors combined.

SanJose, in every market where direct competition arrives, Tesla sales dive. In markets where the Jaguar and Audi are available, Model S and Model X sales tank.
So against "direct" competition is fails.

Careful San Jose, Tesla still uses switchgear from Benz, is building vans with them, and may be bought by Benz soon

SanJose, what do you consider direct competitors? In Europe the Model S and X are getting killed by the only direct competitors. Model 3 sales tank after the 3 year long pipeline is filled.

Do you actually have a link to which markets the Jaguar and Audi are outselling Teslas... the Jag is available here in the US and sales are pretty dismal. In fact, I have yet to see one in Silicon Valley.

Oh no, SanJoseDriver, tesla sales in Norway - (Norway provides daily sales rate information which has been a decent indicator for European sales overall) - have dropped by two thirds in the last month. It seems that cramming 3 years of backlog into one sales month makes for a uniques phenomenom. Just like quoting great sales numbers for February 2018 in Germany and now sales of the S and X are but a trickle.
Oh, and Jauguar and Audi are increasing there lead over the S an X. it seems like competietion really is a good thing, unless you are Tesla and your mountain of dept is dependent on the myth of ever increasing sales.

Visiting Germany, in Nuremberg. I certainly did not expect to see a Tesla 3 since sales started in Germany only last month but have already seen three here. Two on the road and one parked. The one parked had a lot of people stopping and looking at it and from what I can understand of German (not fluent but moderately conversive) they were giving positive remarks about it.

Gee - do you really think they would have stopped if they did not care for the looks of the car?

Since that is all they could be conversing one (It is not like they got a test drive) - ou would expect them to give positive remarks - people who don't like the car wouldn't have stopped to begin with

“And by the way, "scheise" is not a compliment on the car. Might want to refresh your German” You might want to refresh your ability to read English and German since the word “schemes” is nowhere in my post. Actually the lack of this ability explains a lot of posts around here.

I know it was not in your post. I was imagining what they thought of the Model 3. Europeans are more discerning regarding the interiors of their cars. The Model 3 comes up way short.
So take your smug attitude to one of the Tesla fanboy sites where it will be appreciated. We like real cars here.

Who has the most profit? I just read over the weekend that one of the largest sources of revenue for Tesla is selling credits for Greenhouse Gas Credits (GHC) that they sell to predominatly less compliant automakers, maninly FCA. This program is getting tighter fleet requirements and may be eliminated altogether.
It is another source of government welfare for Tesla.

The Model S took the crown even though it qualifies for some incentives for the original owner. Without the incentives, the resale value would be even higher.

Just because Tesla prices their cars in line with the luxury/prestige brands doesn't make it a competitor. Also, how can someone compare an EV to an ICE? IMO the resale value is only high because the S and X doesn't have a mass market competitor yet, that's fully launched. Once the other brands release their EV then and only then will we know how. I'm sure a refreshed Model S and X will be released by then. Just glad they didn't release a date for the refreshed models, since we all know how well they hit their targets.

Okay Truthy, how about a 1 day old article?

https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-vs-porsche-sales-germany/

"Tesla’s combined Model S, Model X, and Model 3 sales in Germany have put the all-electric car maker within striking distance of Porsche after only two months on the European market. Tesla’s total sales of 2,367 vehicles in March were short a mere 356 vehicles to match the sales of the German auto maker, according to monthly data published by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority."

Again... OUCH
