Blinded By The Light: Users Discover Cadillac's Super Cruise Gets Confused By Direct Sunlight

Cadillac’s Super Cruise driving assistant is able to navigate most U.S. highways all on its own, as long as the driver maintains his or her eyes on the road. However, it’s been known to struggle in direct sunlight, as there have been instances where it abruptly disengaged.

According to Autonews, Super Cruise won’t work perfectly in certain weather conditions, such as heavy rain or snow, or in this case bring sunlight, which can disrupt the driver-facing camera.

In the three years I had my CT6 - which is still in the family - I actually found it a reasonable driver for a largish Luxury Car. I still do not get the idea of needing computers to drive the car for me - even as I approach 80.

However - I guess that there are people who want their own car - but in certain monotonous driving situations (Like long interstate drives) -allowing a computer to take over seems logical to some - but NOT for me. I would suspect that in those situations - the driver is MORE LIKELY to fall asleep as the wheel - and not be in place for an emergency situation. I do not know HOW the manufacturers are going to combat that - maybe electric shock !!!!

GM, You mean to tell me in all your days of testing the feature, not one was sunny LOL, that’s almost as bad as a Tesla’s mistaking semi trucks for the sky.

I wonder how Benz whom has equipped their cars with the feature since 98 haven’t gotten caught up in a huge glitch or flaw.

So when these Cadillacs were in R&D wearing the black dress and driving it in all weather conditions they didnt notice this? I thought that was the point of dressing a future vehicle in the black dress.
