WHAT Did Jeep Do SO WRONG On The New WRANGLER JL? Sales And Resale Dropping Like The Rocks They Climb...#FCA
Only months ago, we made a call. It was a bold one but this isn't something that's unfamiliar to the Agents.

We said it loud and clear.

The all-new Jeep Wrangler (JL) was getting hammered on the wholesale market. Simply put, their values were not holding up at auction. This includes both the Rubicon and Sahara variants.

In comparison, the JK Wrangler was still maintaining its value. This is how bad it's gotten: Dealers are discounting all-new JLs to the tune of $8,000 in SoCal and these vehicles are still not moving quickly enough.

We hate to say it but we told you so.

We were onto this months ago because Agent 001 knows this market like the back of his hand. And, he also experienced it first hand. According to 001 he never had so much trouble moving a Wrangler as his JL. When he decided to part ways with his JL it sat on Craigslist for three months and it only received a handful of calls from interested buyers. Consider this: It was the only 2018 JL in the SoCal region for sale on Craigslist.

That said, we've got to call the JL on the carpet: What is SO WRONG with the all-new JL that it's getting punished by the free markets?

The iconic styling doesn't matter to a lot of people. Making it more bold and big would have made it a bigger success.

Price/value equation versus other buying options has gotten out of line. Comparable priced SUV's offer more comfort, on road performance, amenities and utility.

A lot of potential buyers are waiting on the diesel and/or the Gladiator. I think that leaks of the new Bronco are also having an effect.

1 - Eventually - the horrid reliability had to start to catch up to them

2 - Jeep has been regularly raising the prices of their vehicle - out of line with their position in the market - competing against heavy hitters that are often cheaper than the Jeeps. That might work in Europe - but in the USA - Jeep never was considered a top tier vehicle.

3. Other manufacturers are now offering OFF-ROAD equipped version of their vehicles - cutting into the market

4 - With Sales now Ebbing - and on the decline - more and more manufacturers are moving to more versions of SUVs - to follow the sales. More competition means they have to keep up - they have not.

The new JL just doesn't look as tough as the JK does. Side by side, the JL just looks watered down and less masculine. Doesn't mean it isn't better in every way, because I think it is. But as a whole, it just looks less tough.

What happened? You mean outside of its structure breaking like a 90-year-old with osteoporosis? The price has gotten a bit out of hand as well.

This is the Free Market working, Jeep has priced the Wrangler out of its market. Thank you, Adam Smith.

When is the Jeep Grand Cherokee going to get a redesign? Maybe they should remodel it in order to jeep Jeap in the black and out of the red. It is a good SUV right?

I think when hell freezes over. Sergio's brilliant plan was to base it on the Giorgio, but that fell through because Giorgio is garbage and they don't have the money to engineer it into a Grand Cherokee, Charger, and Challenger as was the plan. Mind you, all three of them dramatically outsell Alfa Romeo, but all three will soldier on the old platforms they are currently on.

Anyway Kia increased 10% and the Telluride sold 5080 units its first full month. But because Kia and Hyundai is Korean their sales wont get posted. After all this is anti-Korean car blog. Chinese cars are more accepted on this blog.

Compared to the Patriot (-97% sales), the 10% drop of Wrangler looks manageable. Wait till the $62,000 Gladiator hits the ground. FCA will really see what it is like to be selling an grossly over priced stone.
