Toyota Offers Free Use Of Hybrid Technology Hoping To Slow EV Progress While It Plays Catch Up
Toyota Motor Corp. will offer free access to its hybrid vehicle patents through 2030, seeking to expand use of the lower-emission technology even as the global industry shifts towards fully electric cars.

The pledge on Wednesday by one of the world's biggest automakers to share its closely guarded patents, the second time it has opened up a technology, is aimed at driving industry uptake of hybrids and fending off the challenge of battery electric vehicles.

Then you're a fool, all you need to do is look at charts of EV sales over the last 5 years to see the trend. Literally every major manufacturer is moving towards EVs except for Toyota.

Also, Tesla sales for Q1 have not been revealed yet.

Only a fool would assume that Toyota is playing catch up. Toyota is good for waiting for a business case can be made and then it jumps in. Hybridization will be much more important over the next 10 years than EVs.
