High Performance Tiguan R With 300HP Golf R AWD Powertrain Caught Testing

It’s been a couple of years since we last saw Volkswagen testing a high-performance version of the Tiguan SUV, but it looks like the plan is back on track going by these new images of what will likely become the Tiguan R.

Despite this prototype’s bodywork being familiar from the standard Tiguan in R-Line trim, it is the quad oval exhaust outlets – as one might see on both the Golf R and T-Roc R – that likely make this a performance version in testing. We suspect that it’ll share the same 296bhp EA888 engine with both of the aforementioned R models, and likewise a combination of a Haldex all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Tiguan R = $50K when it needs to be $35K.
This would be an epic disaster for VW in the USA.

Do you think it'll go for $50K, seems insane? They could market it as the Tiguan GTI and perhaps pickup folks who love the GTI but want a CUV?

The base price of a Golf R is about $41K before option bundles, so YES, I think VW will find a way for it to be $50K.

this isn't necessarily surprising. don't they share a similarly sized platform variant?

now, if it's priced like a luxury UV in the US, then they've killed whatever success it could have. the base Tig is already a bit pricey, so....there's the answer to my question.

The Tiguan is a poor seller in its segment largely because it is too expensive for what you get and the CRV and Rav4 are simply worlds better.
