Will The Audi R4 Become a Reality?

Audi should strengthen the performance of their A4 & A6 before doing all these new models. 'Cause right now, I just think, here's another nose-heavy, light steering, nice interior Audi that is going to look really pretty and come in 3rd after Porsche and BMW in the next Edmunds comparison test. No one is raving about how any Audi drives except the RS4. A stronger rep with their long-standing cars would help their new performance cars to have more presence and credibility.

I bet 99.5% of people on autospies (including myself) cant get the nose heavy Audi to understeer, and affect his driving.

No one cares of what Edmunds think with me at the top, because so far the future M3's facts dont sound RS4 killing. BMW is taking so long to develop it, because they are having trouble with the V8 M3 beating the RS4 and therefore also the M5. They will have to make it better than the M6 to beat the RS4, since RS4 is right in between M5 and M6. I am also fairly confident it will not be such a great drivers car as the current one with a I6.

BTW I forgot to mention Audi is going engine behind front axel for future models... they better keep the overhang though, cuz it looks nice :P

the m3 specs dont sound killer to the rs4, the current m3 "only" has 333hp, and less than 300lb feet of torque, and does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds the rs4 does it 4.6 and it took 420 horsepower to do that, an m3 with the same horsepower would blow this car out the water it took almost 100hp to outrun an m3 by 2 tenths of a second thats pretty funny, the c55 is faster than the rs4 is with how much horsepower? a c63 would outrun the rs4 also and again put audi in behind, the cts-v does 0-60 in 4.6 with 400hp....the new cts-v with almost 500hp will blow the doors of the rs4 as well audi remains a step behind consistently but nice job at being faster than a bmw that is how many years old.... thats just like the rs6 it will have to have way over 500hp to even have the same 0-60 as the m5, and e63.

Well, 4.8 is the quickest the M3 can do it... 4.3 is the quickest the RS4 can do it. And, the RS4 is an undoubtedly cooler car than the current M3. That's the price you pay for exclusivity.

Another thing- Audi's unbelievable engineers more than make up for the weight of the car. It drives like it weighs less than my A3 and it goes like a rocket ship. I would take one over an M3 or M5 in a heartbeat. The new M3 remains to be seen...

The number in Audis nomenclature refer to the chassis platform, not engine. Hence a RS4 could have a W12 but still be a 4 series chassis.

The R10 is a LeMans race car (the hyped-up diesel-powered one that won this year).

Audi should strengthen its current lineup to better compete with BMW, MB and Lexus. Audi still needs to gain a stronger foot hold in the US (Audi still has a long way to go).

Audi's next A4 model that will compete with the 335i from BMW will have in excess of 300 horsepower.

That should put the performance in-line.

People will rave how 4 Audis drive.

Those would be the RS4, R8 an R10 along with future RS6.

RS4 barely outperformes the current M3. Are you out of your mind. RS4 does not even come close to M5 or M6.

Question: Why does Audi have to take out so many supercars? RS4, S4, RS6, S6, S8. thats 5 different cars out of 3 models.

Answer: Because they have to keep changing and updating to keep up with a BMW that lasts for 7 years. Hense the M3. Still looks hot and performs hot is based on a 1999 design.

Actually, no.

The RS4 outperforms the M3 by a significant margin. It's intangible- it may only be a half a second quicker and more expensive, but it's hard to describe the driving experience. Someone on this website mentioned knowing someone else who have a Gallardo and an RS4... and they prefer the RS4. It's not hard to see why.

Drive one, and it will open your eyes.

FYI-- it's faster than the M5 around the Nürburgring (BMW desparately tried to break the eight-minute mark with the new 500hp M5; they didn't, and to their embarrassment, Audi got it in 7:58 with the 420hp RS4 and it only weighs about 100lbs less), and matches the M6.

These are not supercars, they are performance sedans (and wagons and convertibles). And of course Audi will keep updating their models to surpass BMW and BMW will then update their models to surpass Audi.

Why the hell would any business not update their products to stay competitive? I hope you are never a business owner someday because with that "stick with what you got" business model, it will be short-lived.

I was talking about how they get along on the nurburgring. I know the figures are better for the BMW. And RS4 EASILY outperforms the current M3, and if u didnt know its just as old, if u dont count the facelift..but it did need the new grill

M power you must not have seen the article posted numerous times on this website by various Audi supporters showing the Audi RS4 achieving a FASTER time around the Nurgurgring than the BMW M5 and an IDENTICAL time around the Ring as the BMW M6.

If any Audi supporters still have that article, could you please post it to show MPower's lack of knowledge.

When these guys say "faster", they mean in a straight line as opposed to real world driving where there are things called curves. AWD is faster around the track, if you claim otherwise then you're either ignorant or a liar. There's plenty of real world evidence to back this up.

That's not true. The S4 is faster around the track than the M3, though the M3 is slightly faster in a straight line. Again, there is plenty of legit video evidence to back this up. The RS4 will toast the current M3. I've driven one and I encourage all of you to do the same, if the dealer will let you, that is.

Actually, a buddy of mine who owns a new RS4 got it to do 0-60 in 4.4 flat. I was with him at the track that day and I saw the #'s with my own peepers. That 4.8 estimate is a little on the high side. If you push the car it will do better.

Look, I wish you BMW vs Audi haters would just GROW UP and cool it. They're both nice cars. I used to own a 2003 M3 and I sold it when I got my new S4 last December. Why? Because it snows where I live and the M3 is useless in the snow. No, I'm not putting chains on it either, and I don't like the idea of leaving it idle for weeks on end. I feel that I can fairly compare the two vehicles because I've owned both of them for extended periods of time. Most of you cannot say the same. I love the feel of the M3, though I prefer the engine sound of the S4. I would also much prefer to take a 500 mile trip in my S4. The ride is stiff, but not ass numbing like the M3. The one thing I really like about the M3 over the S4 is the availability of mods. To some this is a huge deal and means everything, but not to me. As long as I can supercharge my S4 when the warranty expires, I'm fine with it.

Audi's are heavier, that's why they're a little slower in a straight line. The AWD makes them a little faster on the track though when you compare the M3 and the S4. If the road is wet it's not even close. IMO, the M3 and the RS4 are not really in the same category. The RS4 costs upwards of 80K out the door, nearly 20K more than the M3. The new M3, when it finally comes out, should be a damn fine car. But, I still don't expect it to beat the RS4 around the track, simply because of the AWD issue. The upside though is that the M3 will cost far less and will certainly be almost as fast. I may very well buy a new M3 as long as it comes with a V8, but I won't be getting rid of my Audi. I love them both for different reasons.

Isn't the engine sound awesome? I'm considering getting a freeer-flowing exhaust system to make it louder. It's the sweetest-sounding V8 I've ever heard (besides the RS4, that is).

I can also see why the RS4 will be faster than the M3 on the track.

And yes, they are both amazing cars. Anyone that thinks otherwise is ignorant. After you get through the RWD vs. AWD issue, the choice you make is purely subjective.

He's right, the RS4 will rape the M3 and comes incredibly close to the M5. For a base of $66k vs over $90k for a cheap interior and a joke interface, the RS4 is clearly a better car.
