#NYIAS: SPIED! Just BEFORE Its Big Apple Reveal, All-new Spy Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class Emerge
This upcoming week marks the 2019 New York Auto Show (NYIAS). Now that Detroit is essentially reduced to rubble, the New York show — more or less — takes center stage for the North American market.

Los Angeles has some reveals but it's not quite there. New York, traditionally a consumer show, seems to have a lot of unveilings in the pipeline for 2019. We're looking forward to it.

That said, one we're particularly interested in is the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. The GLS is now in its third generation and this über luxury seven-seater sport-utility vehicle has been a suburban favorite.

In high net worth neighborhoods it's common to run across the GLS, Range Rover, Escalade and G-Wagon. Now that the BMW X7 is here, things are about to get heated.

Before the GLS is unveiled though, we've got one last batch of revealing spy shots fresh from abroad. It's not going to change the design game as it follows the all-new GLE's footsteps. It will feature a prominent front grille, a conservative side profile and be BIG. Interesting to note that the three-pointed star seems to have gone with thinner, more tapered rear taillights.

I haven't come across interior snaps yet but we're keeping our ears to the ground.

Stay tuned to AutoSpies.com for the latest news surrounding the 2019 New York Auto Show.

Less pointy and creased. A kinder gentler design for the sensitive 1%er with kids. A big GLE. Why the change, to make a clearer difference between the Benz version and the Maybach version to come.

1%ers would not be caught dead in something so pedestrian. They would be in a Bentiguan or a Cunanan.

MD - you are missing a few zero's and a decimal point...

.0001%'ers wouldn't be caught dead in the GLS, they would be in a Bentoureg or a Cunanan (or a Uranus) as evidenced by the microscopic sales of those $200K+ SUV's (that barely sell with at least $30,000 on the hood).

This GLS will do just fine amongst the 1%; the .1%, and the .01%.

The Maybach version of this GLS will further eviscerate sales of the Bentoureg and the Cunanan for those seeking more.

So the 1%ers are going to buy a $70K SUV? Riiiiiiiiight.

MD - Warren Buffet, who is an 0.000000000000000000000000001%'er, drives a Cadillac XTS as do many of his peers.

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/21/why-these-5-billionaires-still-drive-these-cheap-cars.html

I'm no expert on this but I'll observe that most of the profligate spending on luxury goods in the US comes from people who can barely afford to purchase them (which is a relative term on a $300,000 vehicle like the Cullinan). The fact that people 'lease' their toys is a good sign that they can barely afford them. I'd say that most super-high-end luxury goods are purchased by those people with net worths of between $5MM and $25MM (or else have a job where they have a "good year" periodically that they blow on stuff as if they won the lottery (we're looking at you pro athletes and middle pack actors/singers).

People who are wealthier than that realize that not all that much pleasure is derived from luxury goods. Plus ALL luxury goods experience rapid depreciation because not that many people want (or can afford) a used luxury item. They are smart so they quickly conclude that profligate spending is just a huge waste of money, that often leaves them feeling empty.

If you love it, can afford it, and/or feel that you HAVE to buy it - go ahead. Once you do that once or twice or thrice you will realize that its a hollow, fleeting feeling. IMO, unless you are someone like Wayne Carrini and its your business or hobby about which you are passionate, in which case its 'entertainment' spending, which is a different animal all together.

Good to see this will have the same 3 strip led treatment to the headlights as the S. It’s nice being able to identify unique design ques according to class other than size

I like it. Looks more organic than the current yet still has the right amount of big-SUV-ness about it. It’s anadvancement from the current and distinct from the GLE. Unlike the X7 which looks like a longer X5.

The X7 looks amazing in person. This looks 10 years outdated.

I've actually got full brochure pics (no cammo photo shoot session) both inside and out of the new 2020 GLS...I'd love to share them but don't want to pay photobucket to host them. Too bad you can't attach images to this site. Any suggestions?

Mind-numbingly dull and dated looking. Who would have thought that BMW could have pulled a rabbit out of its hat like it has done with the X7?

The X7 will do much better against this than the 7 Series will against the S-Class.

For those hating on this...the tech blows the X7 out of the water. The larger size over the X7 will also make a difference as will the more comfortable ride. Also, once you see the designo interior options you will really have a true comparison to the interior previewed in all the X7 manufacturer advertising. Wait until you see the GLS580...it has a completely different and upscale Range Rover esque vibe. The Maybach version no doubt will be world class.

Assuming "the tech blows the X7 out of the water"--which I doubt--it will need to because the X7 is so 3008 and this is so 2000 and late.

The interest in the X7 is healthy locally.
