#NYIAS: LEAKED! The Next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLS Gets Unveiled In These EXPOSED Pics
Welp, that was fast.

With several days before the kick off of the 2019 New York Auto Show (NYIAS), the latest from the three-pointed star has been exposed before its official reveal. That's right, Spies. You're getting your first look at the next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

2019 New York Auto Show Preview

As noted in a previous thread the GLS is a go-to for many folks with kids in the suburbs. And, with good reason.

It boasts Mercedes' class-leading technology, space in all directions and three rows of seating.

From the first batch of pictures, it's very clear that the GLS will echo the GLE, both inside and out. The body is awfully similar but stretched, and the interior looks damn near identical with exception of the strategically added leather on the lower dash and grab handles located on the center console.

Take a peek below and weigh in. What are YOUR first impressions?

Hmm, this or the X7. What I am personally seeing is that BMW and Mercedes have chosen create similar cars but with very similar personalities.. I say BMW has become more Mercedes like with the ride and looks whereas Mercedes has become more progressively stylish while preserving their ride quality with better handling than some of the BMWs depending on which models... Its getting too mundane and boring.. Remember the 80s and 90s? When the BMW and Mercedes where very different in characters and you can pick which you prefer without all that confusion?

I think the new GLS wins the "ventilation vent quantity" prize hands down. Between the six rectangular vents across the IP and the huge ones on the sides of the video screen, it looks to have a very well-ventilated cabin!

My wife would want an X7, but it simply isn't going to work with 5 little boys.

@Truthy We have twins, a single, and twins in rapid order. All under age 8. We also have a teenage son that was a foster kid to us and based on his situation (dire as hell) we went after termination of parental rights and made him officially ours. Jed is a friend of my brother-in-law's younger brother. Jed was a lot like me when he came to live with us and so my machiavellian wand was waved and abracadabra said.

OneofOne - The fact is - ALL Of these truly large SUV are rarely if ever going to be used for OFF Roading - Maybe a drive on the Highway in snow is the worst it will see. So- in the end they are just people carriers - with an occasional jaunt to the antique store for that Grandfather clock. ANd if you think an owner is going drive them on frozen lakes sliding around like idiots -think again.

Now today- we really do not have a high enough end Mini-van to compete with the premium level of these two - the interiors are in the Sclass. However - the fact remains - a Mini-van is the superior way to transport lots of people - and cargo - and stow and go still is a reason to buy one too.

However - as noted - if you want a huge Luxury boat - those two are about as high as you can go.

Flabby. Dated. Boring. This is a stumble in the styling department.

"I like it. Looks more organic than the current yet still has the right amount of big-SUV-ness about it. It’s anadvancement from the current and distinct from the GLE. Unlike the X7 which looks like a longer X5."
-cidflekken

Please, now that the photos are out, tell us more about how the new GLS doesn't look like a longer GLE but the X7 looks like a stretched X5. We're all ears. (eyeroll)

LOL. Wow, self esteem issues, much? You were just waiting for the real photos to post so you could copy and paste my comment and try to call me out? Can't stop laughing.

But, yes, it does bear a resemblance to the GLC. But it doesn't look simply like a stretched version like the X7/X5 relationship.

Seriously, can't stop laughing right now.

You're either blind or being intentionally obtuse. Photos of the new GLE:

https://alabamanewscenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/GLE-Feature.jpg

https://content.autotrader.com/content/dam/autotrader/articles/AutoShows/2018/Paris/2020Mercedes-BenzGLE/usethese/2020%20-%20Mercedes-Benz%20GLE%20(1).jpg

https://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content/dam/mb-nafta/ca/future-vehicles/upcoming/all-new-2020-GLE/GLE_Highlight.jpg

The GLS is a stretched GLE. Front ends identical. Interiors identical. Rear ends almost identical. Sides almost identical (only difference of note is the rear side glass - unless they were side by side, that rear side glass would be the only way to tell them apart at a glance).

By the way, I'm not knocking them for doing it, I happen to think the GLE and GLS are both good looking vehicles. And don't get me wrong, the interior of the X5 and X7 are the same, too, but outside the two don't look much alike. Even if you think they do, and you'd really have to be squinting and ignoring some blatant differences (lights, grill, shoulder line, etc.) they don't look nearly as much alike as the new GLE and GLS. The X5 and X7 have family resemblance. The GLE and GLS are the same vehicle in standard and plus sizes.

We get that you work for Mercedes, but c'mon man. You see it. We see it. Everyone sees it. It's not up for debate, to deny it (and especially to call out another vehicle for it) is the very definition of hypocritical. Mercedes made a GLE, which is attractive, and now they're making a bigger GLE. Just call a spade a spade and be done with it.

LOL. Just breathe, JRob. It will be okay. They will all sell very well. My opinion is my opinion, and the opinion of many others. I'm not going to sit here and deny your own opinion, because that's what it is. Enjoy your day, sunshine.

Looks kind of boring to me. Not bad, just Audi-levels of understatement.

I think in a car like this, you need some more pizzazz. BMW recognizes that with the design of its X7, and also recognized how it had misstepped in that regard with the 7 with the refresh.

The only difference is that the 7 could at least charitably be called "elegant", while this just looks "nice" at best. That green color narrows that gap though, I like it more in that color/trim.

I see a lot of Infiniti QX80 (I think that is the series, it seems like Infiniti changes series #'s almost as often as I change underwear) in it, and the front end is very weak compared to the outgoing.

I don't disagree. A bit subdued. I'm sure they will put the better grille with the AMG trim like they have with the GLE and that should at least add some aggressiveness to the front end.

I could put you in contact with a few, yes. Is that your thing?

I used to do everything in sight rather than chase perfection. And my wife who has known me since we were three knew everything back then because we were close friends. I've always been brutally honest and that's why I love her so much is she is in return. Heck, she even sent a few hookups my way. She like being my concierge. I rarely said no. So yes, I've experienced some hook ups with gravity issues. That phase and that bond are probably the reasons she and I are so close today.

Out of curiosity, Truthy, how old are you?

I was expecting more from MB in terms of design. The boring, flat dash reminds me of a dash on a golf cart. The X7 interior is now ahead in terms of luxury and style.

My guess is yes. Manufacturers rarely do an actual clean-sheet design. Besides, you can change one bolt and call it all-new and the worshipping fanboys will believe you.
