Official Smart Fortwo photos released

The fortwo has grown in all dimensions and now sits at 2.69 meters (8.82 feet) long. It will also be powered by a bigger motor that's a full liter in size and available in various power levels. A diesel option will be offered, and SMART is also fitting the new fortwo with a "stop & go" system that cuts the engine at red lights much like a hybrid. Safety will be a big priority as well, with each fortwo stocked with front airbargs, ABS and ESP.

I can see it selling well here in Europe/UK, it's like the old one, only better.

the stop and go technology will increase city mpg by quite a bit.

Cool car, but I'm not sure if it's right for the US. Image a head on collision between a SmartforTwo and a Ford F350 SuperDuty.

It's a novelty... its time has long since faded.

I don't see this car making it in the US. It's ridiculously impractical, it will be expensive (over $20K if it gets imported), and painfully slow.

It's also a joke. No street cred.

Actually, it does looks like the car it replaces, I saw a few in Canada and I can't say this really strikes as different or new looking.

The Smart car is an excellent idea. Design is subjective, but I hear they're quite spacious on the inside.

The car will be a smashing success if DCX prices it right. Prestige pricing works for Mercedes, but not for Smart. Especially since the last model offered nothing over slightly bigger economy cars than efficient methods of parking within the city. In effect, the Smart was heavily overpriced while not giving anything really worth paying for except fuel economy and parking.

My daughter for example is crazy about the Smart, which leads me to believe that the car has "chick appeal" (it appeals to teenage girls because it is "cute" etc.).

Read. It won't be easy for DCX to price it cheaply, if they ever import it here. I see more money losses in the near future.
