#NYIAS: The All-new Lincoln Corsair Is Here — Does It COMPLETELY Destroy The Cadillac XT4 Based On LOOKS Alone?
Yesterday marked an important day in the history of Lincoln. That's because Ford's luxury division launched a critical sport-utility vehicle that we suspect may give General Motor's Cadillac some trouble.

That's because it squares up against the likes of the all-new Cadillac XT4.

2019 New York Auto Show

Having driven the XT4 recently, I can say it is an acceptable offering. But its Art & Science-inspired styling doesn't exactly bring anything new to the table. It looks really great in black but it's very derivative and its interior is not going to win any design awards.

Lincoln, however, is swinging for the fences with the all-new Corsair. Looking like a Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5 and the latest Lincoln Aviator got it on, its an amalgamation of styles. Definitely more busy than the Cadillac, it's not a design for the faint of heart; however, it does make an impression.

But is it the RIGHT one?

Having said that, I've got to ask: Does the all-new Corsair completely DESTROY the XT4 based on looks alone?

While I'd want to see it in the flesh, so to speak, yes it does look fantastic.

Ford is going in the right direction with Lincoln!

I'd say yes. The XT4 comes off as strange in person. The XT5 and 6 are completely forgettable. Lincoln did a nice job converting the MKX to the Nautilus. Lincoln is really doing it right whereas Cadillac is getting more wrong by the moment.

BMW and Audi are on an "iIt's new but it looks old" styling kick, so I don't know how that's "setting a trend" assuming that a trend should be a positive thing. The Mercedes GLS is a stagnant design.

If Cadillac produced a CTS-sized vehicle that was upright, formal-roofed, and long for an ATS price with a Seville name they would set a sales trend. Cadillacs should have names, be large, stylish, and flashy, and be utterly American in every way.

By contrast, Lincoln is getting their products ship shape with designs that are wholly American, and it's working. It will be interesting to see how they use CD6 to set themselves even more on the right track.

I agree but I don't blame Cadillac, I blame senior GM Mgt. They are ruining the amazing brand with their "cheap bastards" strategy. Tell me GM cannot field an interior superior to any vehicle out there, they simply refuse. Why have they not used the CT6 Omega platform for other products but recycles the (very good) Alpha platform? The Omega is a technical marvel yet they nearly cancelled it... WHY?

Ford CLEARLY is committed to rebuilding Lincoln but also as a global brand and this Corsair is a very big step in the right direction. Everyone has a BMW or a Benz or fill in the blank... but this Corsair will attract new conquest buyers that want something different than everyone else, and those that have wanted to buy American but had no choices.

Each new Lincoln model will significantly out sell the XT4/5 and pathetic XT6. I personally was hoping the 6 was going to be like the Aviator a serious looker... thank goodness Ford stepped up... Kudo's to Ford and their serious leadership. GM you are seriously pathetic...

AS far as the Omega Platform - I believe that GM is going to have a XT7 crossover and a CT7 flagship sedan based upon either that platform - or an update for it.

However - I am not so sure that Lincoln and Cadillac are somehow involved in a self-contained competition between the TWO of them for sales. WHile some people will compare them - I believe that market is just too large to point to one or the other.

@TomM Where have you been? The CT7 flagship got canceled a long time ago. The CT6 is living minute by minute, but will not be around much longer either.

only thing that hurts Lincoln & Cadillac... they're not German automakers. they're both doing great jobs at making changes & offering the options & content consumers want. they can only try to meet the trends. but the Germans are setting them b/c the average consumer just wants to flaunt the foreign badge.

Destroying the XT4 is not really an accomplishment. This model (and the Navigator/Aviator) are class leading. Cadillac should look and learn.

Just not feeling this one. The design feels a bit disjointed, like the front-end and rear were designed by two different teams. The front-end is rounded (and meek) and the rear window/roof is angled. Not unlike today's Audis' conflicted design that have very angular front-ends but rounded rooflines/greenhouses.
A bit disappointed considering how much I really love the Aviator's design.

And, honestly, I've seen a good handful of XT4s on the road and they actually look very nice and they stand out. I was NOT a fan at first, but seeing them in person has changed that....but only a bit.

Corsair is just as beautiful as the stunning Aviator and they will sell well n take sales from competition.. esp. Caddy!

The XT4 is rather ugly with too much black plastic on front n grill. Interior is not as nice as Buick.

GM invested $11B to rebuild Caddy yet it doesn't show in latest offerings. They don't even have answer to Lincoln Black Label series that are stunning...!

Look at how awesome the black-n-tan "Cashew" theme is on Corsair

RIP Caddy...!!

The name Corsair makes me think Lincoln Corvair. They could have picked a better name.

Winner... BMW & Audi have serious competition coming from the Lincoln SUV family. Cadillac, a brand with so much potential and still so completely screwed up from the idiot Johan de Nysschen, the arrogant South African that thinks the world owes him... the Cadillac brand is dead, the cars are dumb and the SUV range is largely forgettable... Cadillac has not produced a good car since 1976. no reason to think that will change.

I'm toying with the idea of finding a 1976 Seville and doing an LS7 conversion.
