General Motors Board Will Become A Women Majority For The First Time Ever
Women will become the majority on the board of General Motors this year after two male directors retire. It’s a first for an automaker and places GM among a handful of companies with roughly the same number of men and women at the highest level.

GM’s board will shrink to 11 members, from 13, with two directors not standing for re-election at the annual meeting June 4, the company said in its proxy filing. Jim Mulva, former CEO of ConocoPhillips, and Admiral Mike Mullen, former chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, are both 72, the retirement age for the automaker’s board.

Because "gyneleadership" has been so brilliant? Mary Barra has been utterly incompetent. The better question isn't about gender parity in the workplace but why hasn't Barra been fired for he destruction of GM.

What the hell is "gyneleadership"?

Agree or disagree with Mary Barra's decisions all you want (I know I certainly do), but it has NOTHING to do with her being a woman.

In the public's perception it most certainly does.

@MD The only logical reason is that large investors and the board members do not share that opinion. If they had an issue with her leadership, she would be out just like any other CEO.

Her biggest stumble and most unpardonable sin is the debacle with De Nysschen that set Cadillac back a decade.

Lordstown was a self-inflicted black eye.

All she's done is weaken GM to the point that it is a prime takeover target for the Chinese.

Disagree about Johann. But that's old territory at this point.

Interesting interview with him at Automobile Magazine. Long, in-depth, with a lot of discussion about the industry and business. I found it fascinating.

What exactly did Jockitch DeNiacin accomplish?

He lost time moving Cadillac to NYC which accomplished absolutely nothing.

He confused customers with the moronic "Dare Greatly" campaign. What do hairdressers and wifi have to do with Cadillacs or a failed name in tech that was far eclipsed by the superior Steve Jobs? Were Cadillacs also-ran footnotes like Wozniak?

His solution to a confusing naming system was to create one that caused even more confusion: CTS vs CT6...XTS vs XT5.

The Elmiraj was a massive hit with the Cadillac fans, but instead of capitalizing on it by using that name, out came the CT6 with absolutely zero coherent advertising behind it.

No one knew that the CT6 was different from a CTS.

Meanwhile, Lincoln named a tarted up Fusion Hail Mary move the Continental and people acted like an icon had returned. That was a major indication that Jockitch was in deep caca.

Then comes the Escala that wowed everyone, but Jockitch gave us the CT5. The disastrous CT5 and the lackluster XT6 are his doing.

When he arrived, he immediately infuriated dealers by saying he was going to yank franchises, but he hadn't bothered to check the legalities. Dealers fought back and won.

Audi kicked him to the curb. Infiniti kicked him to the curb. Cadillac kicked him to the curb.

GM holds only about 17% of the market today.
Let's see what market share GM holds under femininity control in two years.

Don't be surprised to see the C8 Corvette launch example be finished in pink paint color.

This comment is obviously not serious, and is designed to incite people.

Nice try.

Putting aside the gender issue and looking at specific board members, many don't seem to me to have the appropriate career experiences to add much to the challenges GM faces...a pharmaceutical head (Novartis), a head of Harvard endowment investments, a retail electronic company (Best Buy), a retail chain store( Walmart), and a web retailer (Ebay). Talented people for sure but what can they possibly add to setting strategy and investment direction to a heavy manufacturing and transportation company in transition and struggling.

Gender politics. Hire the best peeps for the job regardless of whatever 72 UN genders they may identify as, color, creed etc. Enough of this PC bullshit already.
