TRUCK WARS! WHO Did It Better? Based On LOOKS, Who Wins? BMW X7 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLS...
Two automotive giants — literally and figuratively — are about to do battle, Spies. That would be the all-new BMW X7 and the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, which was revealed at the 2019 New York Auto Show (NYIAS).
This is great! We love competition.

And we know one of the fiercest battles we're going to see is between the two seven-seater Germans. That's because the X7 is all new and the GLS is one of the suburban vehicles of choice.
Having said that, with the all-new GLS now fully revealed we want to know who YOU think did it better from a styling perspective.
WHO takes the design crown? The BMW or the Mercedes?

Well after scrolling through 1569 pictures of the GLS, my vote is for the GLS. While it’s a bit subdued and I, not a fan of the grille, i like it’s cleaner lines and rounded edges. The AMG trim grille should improve things. The interiors might be a draw. Both use high quality materials and have attractive designs. I’d give the nod to Benz for at least trying to design approach forward whereas BMW looks like it is repeating its already-used layouts and just covering them with better looking materials. And BMWs digital instruments are a fail for me. The main downside for me with the Benz interior are the rectangle center vents that cheapen the look despite being high quality.

Some concision to the images would be a delight.

The comparison further emphasizes the difference between the class in Mercedes design, and the garish extremes of modern BMW design (mostly talking about exterior design).
It's almost criminal how far ahead of the pack Mercedes is at the moment. I hope they never stray from rounded forms ever again (it's what keeps Porsche's same basic design forever appealing, you know).
To each his own, but there is a reason timeless classic cars are almost always rounded forms, scarcely angular.

Not sure the G-Wagen supports your theory.

@cidflekken The G Wagon is specifically built on the image and ethos of a rugged, purely utilitarian vehicle (though lots of luxury features inside now). It was originally a military vehicle. Take out the Mercedes logo, and it could not be identified with the rest of the family. But that is by intent, that is the deliberate identity of the car; it is supposed to be different from the rest of the line; it might as well be a baby Unimog.

Mercedes played it safe and came up with a design that looks like any generic SUV.
BMW went for a bolder, more dramatic design which is by definition more polarizing.

While the GLS is a bit underwhelming, i”d have it over the X7. It seems more versatile for family hauling and trips to the lumber yard.

The X7 is gorgeous in person. I don't think many will realize that the GLS is new.

Can't get past the silly-looking schnoz on the BMW. Treading very close to Lexus ugly.

When you see it in person the whole vehicle makes a lot of sense stylistically.

The old is new again 2005 exterior styling on the GLS is the winner to my eye. But an LX570 will be more reliable than both of these SUV's and still on the road 15-20 years from now.

And when you buy an LX, just think. It's already over 20 years old!!

If I had to look at that Lexus grille for 15-20 years, I think I’d kill myself

They're both just on either side of garish for me.
But the X7, not so much so that it's offensive, and indeed just enough to keep pace with the showy looks requirements at the top of the pyramid.
The GLS, completely inoffensive, but also bordering on anonymous.

This GLS is one big dumb bloke with stupid headlights and tiny exhausts
MB always have design switching between a ugly generation and a beautiful one, and officially it's now in the UGLY phase

If you want bold and brash go with the BMW X7.
If you want subdued and a more relaxed interior go with the Mercedes GLS.
I will say that BMW's press pics show a very loud X7 interior color combination, which will be rare. In darker colors, the X7 interior doesn't look like anything you can't find in an X5 or X3.
