SUV WARS! How Does The All-new Range Rover Evoque Do Against The Audi Q3 And Volvo XC40?
In the wonderful world of entry-level luxury sport-utility vehicles, there's been a smattering of lovely products entering the game. One of our favorites that joined the fray years ago was the first-generation Range Rover Evoque.

That's because it looked brilliant and brought something new to the game.

Now with the funky Volvo XC40 and rather teutonic, all-new Audi Q3 though, there's quite a bit of competition. Of course they all do the same thing but in different ways.

Having said that, if you're left wondering who did it best of the trio, you should check out this Autocar clip, below.

There's a new Range Rover Evoque, don'cha know. Here it is, on the road and ripe for testing against its two key rivals in the smallish, very premium, 4x4/SUV/crossover market. First among them is the Volvo XC40, 2018's Car of the Year and a compact premium SUV that we like a great deal.

Then there's the Audi Q3, a car that has been around for a while but one that is no less popular for that.

Diesel engines still make a great deal of sense in cars like this, which can be used for towing but just as often for covering big motorway distances and the (very occasional) light off-roading. So that's the engines we're testing.

Look on, then, to find who makes the best luxurious small 4x4 - is it Audi, Land Rover or Volvo?

Give me the Audi--and I hate Audis--for the superior quality and reliability relative to the others.

I liks the Evoque. Wife got a new Evoque Dynamic model in 2014 and it has been a nice small ute. I do agree with the transmission comments though, too lazy in normal mode. Sport mode helps, when I drive it I use the paddles most of the time.

Buy a new RAV4 or a Highlander instead. XLE trim if you must. Less money. Still nice. And you will sleep soundly.

Indeed. When you compare the premium versus mainstream crossovers of this size class, you quickly see that the premiums offer virtually no advantages while coming with reliability woes that the mainstreams simply do not have. The RR Evoke still rides on the Escape/Kuga platform that Ford has just replaced. The Volvo uses a Geely platform.

Agreed. I am amazed at what my neighbours paid for a Q5 and a Q3 and what you get in return in terms of space.

If I chose the Evogue, then I would need to also choose the Audi or Volvo as my backup vehicle since the Rover breaks down so frequently.

A friend has an Evoque. It has great seats and drives well. However, it is expensive compared to competition and reliability is horrible.

Wife has about 80k miles on it and nothing major has popped up. On the other hand she had a Honda Accord that was the absolute pits for reliability...CV joints, overheating issues, muffler weld....

No Audi for me, it's an overpriced VW assembled in Mexico. If I want a German car, I want one assembled in Germany so we can do the European delivery package. I'll pass on the Mexican delivery package.
