Crack In The Armor? This Can't Be Good. Honda Accord Production Entering Slow Lane.

Honda is slowing production of Accord and Civic cars as U.S. buyers continue to favor SUVs and trucks.

The Japanese automaker said Thursday that it will temporarily idle a second-shift production line in August at its Marysville, Ohio, assembly plant, in part to prepare the factory to produce future electric vehicles. The shift is expected to resume production in several years.

The line being shut down produces about 55,000 vehicles a year, most of which are Accord sedans, Honda said. In addition, some production of the CR-V small SUV in Marysville will go to a factory in Greensburg, Indiana, where production of the compact Civic will be reduced.

In other news, birds can fly...no sedan is safe in an SUV world, they continue to get more efficient than ever and are more practical than their sedan counterparts for families.

When Lamborghini, Rolls, Bentley, and Porsche gave into the SUV hype, you knew it’s no longer a trend. Welcome to the taller family car everyone.

I prefer wagons but the girlfriend is all about SUVs

How is this "not good" if the intention is to prepare the plant for production of other future products? It would be "not good" if they were reducing production, laying off workers, and shutting down the plant.

That's really unfortunate... as Honda makes one of the best sedan on the market

Industry sales are down and at some point you need to cut production verses undercut competition. What hurts is when redesigned models that should get an uptick actually drop.

This Accord is exactly what buyers did NOT want. The Accord has been a typical sedan and turning it into the Honda Sonata or the Honda Fusion was exactly the wrong thing to do. The ugly face and strange tail were not what people wanted. Conversely, Toyota stuck with a fairly traditional sedan look and Camry sales have not cratered.

But, Accord is up 4.6% and Camry is down 10%. Granted, there's still a gap between them in total sales, but Camry also does fleet sales where Honda does very little, close to none.

The problem with the Accord is that Honda made the miscalculation of developing new powertrains and for that reason cant compete with Camry on price. Camry comes in cheaper in what has become a very price competitive segment.

Oh puhlease, Felicia! The Accord is not the Holy Grail. It is not demonstrably different from the crowd it competes in for quality.

Side profile of Accord: Ford Fusion, Chrysler 200, Lincoln MKz, Chevy Impala, but only the Hyundai Azera and 2011 Sonata would be the copycats because they are Korean

They are having to cut the Accord down because they fakked it up royally.
