Volkswagen May Be Targeting Uncharted Compact Truck Market
In what is sure to be music to the ears of his U.S. dealers, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Scott Keogh says the brand will have a pickup strategy. He's just not yet sure what it will be.

Keogh, 50, who assumed the top job at Volkswagen Group of America six months ago after leading Audi, says he believes there is space for VW in the crowded and highly competitive U.S. pickup market. For the second consecutive year, Volkswagen showed a concept pickup at the New York auto show.

Crossoverpickups were not a trend at the time is why. Now they are the obvious next trend. As for Subaru, they are NEVER on the cutting edge of style or engineering so the Baja was overpriced, had bad NVH, and was an answer to a question that no one was asking at the time. The time has come and the question is being asked.

How is VW targeting an uncharted market? The Ridgeline is there. The Ford Courier is coming fast. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is in the wings. GM has several options it can play. The chart is pretty obvious: crossoverpickups are about to be a thing.
