Soft Jeep Sales Add To 29% FCA Profit Loss In First Quarter

Fiat Chrysler's adjusted operating profit fell 29 percent in the first quarter as sales slowed in its North American profit center and in Europe.

Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes totaled 1.07 billion euros ($1.19 billion) in the January-March period, the company said Friday.

Revenue fell 5 percent to 24.5 billion euros.

Fiat Chrysler maintained its guidance for 2019 earnings, saying it still expects adjusted earnings before interest and taxes above 6.7 billion euros.

FCA may be learning what Harley Davidson found out a few years ago. Just about everyone that wanted one, got one, you’ve reached the over saturation point. Now What?

You sell the company to PSA, Hyundai-Kia, Geely, or GAC.

The problem with FCA is short-sightedness.

The Jeep Cherokee should have been followed by an LWB Dodge Journey.

The Renegade should have been reskinned for a volume Dodge as well.

The Giulia should have produced a new Challenger and Charger by now.

The Stelvio should have produced a new Grand Cherokee by now.

The Pacifica should have produced a Chrysler crossover by now.

ALL of those products would be cheap to develop and because they haven't been developed, that would indicate that money is not available.

I think by now people have realized that by renaming the Truck Division "RAM" - that the "Dodge" division will not survive beyond current offerings. THe same is true of the "Chrysler" division - that they barely changed the last 300 when it was supposed to be a real new look alone said that one.

However - eventually the lack of reliability of product HAD TO catch up with FCA. There is no longer any reason why they should keep Fiat cars here - they don't cover the advertising costs in sales.

And what they really need for Alfa/Maserati is a new high end platform - which we KNOW they never planned for.

Renaming the Dodge Ram into Ram as a brand was a dumb move. Dodge is your muscle cars and pickup truck division. People routinely refer to the Ram as a Dodge Ram to this day.

I'd ditch Chrysler and the Italian brands which are all massive sales losers, rejuvenate Dodge as Ram, Challenger, Charger, Durango, and Caravan (rename the Pacifica).

Pair that with Jeep.

Finding a platform donor will be imperative.

Phoning Hyundai-Kia for access to Hyundai FWD/AWD and Genesis RWD would be a tremendous win.

Toyota would be intriguing for Lexus RWD and Toyota's deep pockets to fund a new Ram in exchange for Ram teaching Toyota how to make a pickup that sells.

GM would be another strange bedfellows partner that makes sense.

I predict Geely and GAC will each get one of GM or FCA.

The Italians will retreat and the idiots at PSA will buy them because their motto is redundancy love company.
