Tesla Vehicles Can Apparently Self Diagnose Issues And Order Repair Parts

Tesla vehicles not only have the ability to drive themselves in select situations, but they can also apparently order replacement parts for problems you may not even know exist. Much like a T-1000 Terminator can fix problems on the fly, Tesla's EV lineup may now be able to self-identify maintenance needs and order parts to fix them.

Reddit user houston_wehaveaprblm posted a photo, apparently taken from the infotainment screen of a Model 3, that shows a notification of a problem with the car's power conversion system.

When will Teslas drive itself to the supermarket and pick up and deliver week's groceries. How about the Tesla driving itself to the R.R. station to pick me up when the 5:45 PM train arrives.

Whole Foods/Amazon already does a good job of same-day grocery delivery ;) RR scenario might in some countries by the end of next year. When your train is a few min away, use the app to call a car the same way you would Uber/Lyft.

Welcome to the future. The next step is having a technician meet you at home with the part if an issue is found.

They would meet you at your home to do what?

If the Model 3 repair issue is a "Power Conversion" system issue, it is doubtful that repairs can be completed in the parking lot of your condo complex.

No, this is a PR stunt so Tesla can pretend to be more responsive to the HUGE time sink of Tesla repairs while your car is out of service for a month.

This message is likely PR puff coming right from the center screen.

On the Model S, I did receive a call from Tesla saying they noticed some irregularities in the powertrain and recommended replacing a part. They picked up my car from work and dropped off a top of the line loaner. This was like 4 years ago. The message is just the next step in the evolution of their support model. They were held back by scaling for the Model 3, which did not go well. Hopefully these efficiencies will help.

CARs have had the ability to determine what is LIKELY wrong with a car and indicated which parts were involved. THe problem comes when replacing parts doesn't solve the problem - like a wire that is being shorted out under a bracket - etc. Mechanics who always replace the parts first are wasting a lot of money. A Bad part may also have the ability to be fixed for less money as well.

Does it self-diagnose like the Alfa Giulia does?

Yes, it sends over someone with a fire extinguisher.
