The 335i will easily be the best in its class. For those seeking ultimate comfort, go elsewhere. But the 3 is the world's perfect sport sedan.

Is it as comfortable as an IS250, TL, those type of cars? How is the cabin noise when you go over the large pot holes or just bumps in the road? That's my biggest concern. Ultimate comfort is an S-class or an LS from Lexus, completely quiet with a floating ride.

Does the 3-series sedan/coupe have a firm but controlled feeling? Does it soak up the bumps without making some sort of noise in the interior? that's one of my petpeeves about cars these days. Quiet cabin noise in terms of road bumps and what not. Engine noise now that's an exception.

You can't come onto AutoSpies, having never driven a BMW 330i sedan. The reason it gets such consistently perfect reviews is because it's, technically speaking, a perfect car. It may not have ultra-luxury, but the interior is far from "cheap", as some love to claim, and it has a forgiving ride with unbeatable handling. Although it's become somewhat of a poser's car, the lucky few who know how to drive are truly lucky.

All of that is true. I didn't say that the 3's interior was best-in-class- but it's far from "cheap". It's an entry-luxury sedan, for God's sake!

Yeah the A4 has some nice looks, but within a few thousand more dollars you have 300hp 335i out of the gate and a very nice set-up. Plus, the A4 is getting retooled in a couple of years. Better to lease a 335 and then get an A4 then. Why not wait until you can get an A4 that drives more like an RS4.

They should have made the rear-lights exactly like the 3-series coupe rear lights.

If they did that I would save myself $5K and get the 335i sedan instead of the 335i coupe

Of course it will. Audi's tend to be FWD in base form. And if we're honest, there is nothing wrong with FWD. The problems with FWD come when the vehicle is too powerful. FWD is also poorly suited to extreme sports cars. I'd say the base Audi TT 2.0 with 200-hp and FWD is still within the limits. Any more power and you need to go RWD or AWD.

Quattro isn't bad from a performance point of view. Before my C230, I had an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro and that car handled, drove and accelerated nicely.

It will have a modular platform, meaning the front axle will move forward, with the engine behind it (no more nose-heaviness), and less of an overhang with much better handling (rear-biased quattro standard). Modular technology will be incorporated across Audi's entire lineup in the future; no more VW-based cars.

Audi did survey its supervisory board and some of its customers, asking if they thought they should switch to RWD. They ended up not switching. Not just because of the massive cost, but it would alienate their FWD customers.

This 3 liter and its turbos is capable of producing up to 150hp per liter, as some BMW sources have revealed.
Take that to your overboosted and chipped out A4s people!

well one thing its an inline 6, second the point of the engine was power, with fuel economy the 335i isnt the performance car the m3 is. the current m3 by the way has more horsepower from a 6 cylinder than the 335i turbo if they just wanted more power they would have tuned the engine to get as much as the m3....the 335i is easily the best sedan hands down in its class, performance, luxury, quality, and reviews that show no other car in its class can compete with it....

The Twin Turboed engine in the 335i is producing more in the range of 320-340 horsepower.

BMW simply could not step on the toes of the outgoing E46 M3 and say that the new 335i had 320 horsepower. If they said the car had in the range of 320-340 horsepower it would be too close and perhaps even greater than the 333 horsepower figure of the E46 M3.

Even at 320 - 340 horsepower it still sounds a little low for a 3.0 6 Cylinder twin turbocharged. I never thought of it until I started comparing cars that I want.
A Mitsubishi Evo produces 286 Horses with a 2.0 4 cylinder with a single turbocharger. A Subaru STI produces 293 horses and 290 ftlbs of torque with a 2.5 4 cylinder engine. And you could take both cars with minor tweaking and you could get both vehicles to produce well over 300 horses and they're all-wheel drive. I love BMW's its just that a car of that stature should be engineered better than that.

^^^^ the bmw has smaller turbos, and unlike the lancer and sti , there is no turbo lag. and the bmw has 300hp to the wheels, meaning that the engine is producing close to 360 hp

i REALLY doubt it's putting out 340 hp when they rated it at 300. MAYBE 310...but come on, we all know you guys worship the almighty BMW but wait till you see a dyno test of it before you start spouting stupid figures.

also, i saw one here in Dallas about 3 weeks ago...and it already had plates on it so it had to have been on the road at lest a few weeks.

At the moment BMW doesn't want to tread on the M3 territory. They would like to sell a few more M3's before the new model arrives. After the release of the 2008 M3, then we'll see the full potential of BMW's 3.0 liter bi-turbo engine. If you want to get the most out of the turbo's right now add the BMW 335I EVOtech ECU Upgrade. EVOtech is the first to release the 335i Twin Turbo ECU upgrade. HP jumps to an amazing 375hp at the crank! Also, I read BMW has a turbo V8 in the works as well. I sure hope that rumor is true.

I don't see this happening. BMW may just rest on its laurels- the 3.0TT with 300hp is competitive in its own right. I had an Audi A6 2.7T quattro before, and twin-turbocharging really is exhilirating. One thing I didn't like: when it picked up speed, it pointed upward like a motor boat. That doesn't happen in the S4. I'm sure it has a lot more to do with the last-gen A6's design than it does the engine.

Here is what the magazine had to say in a nut shell.

"BMW 335i made 275hp and 406Nm torque when dynoed at the wheels! Even more torque at the wheels than BMW quoted at the crank? This would mean the BMW 335i in question is actually making close to 350hp and 480Nm of torque at the crankshaft, alot higher than BMW’s rated 302hp and 400Nm!"
