Are We At Risk? Detroit Runs And Hides While China Is Pushing The Industry Foward
Five years into its plan to reinvent itself as the dominant global technology leader, China has raced far ahead of others on electric-vehicle sales, forged into automated-vehicle development and led the way on deployment of next-generation cellular infrastructure.

"The Chinese are clearly on the offensive," said Michael Dunne, CEO of ZoZo Go, a consulting firm that advises American companies looking to do business in China. On the other hand, "If you look at the Detroit automakers, over the past five years, it's more or less been a theme of retreat," he said.

Or, the US allows the market to determine winners. Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon are all American companies that are successful through innovation, not because the government decided how to proceed.

And Trump is tripping US automakers as they were making great headway in China. The tariffs come at an inopportune time. They are surrendering hard won marketshare that will be nearly impossible to get back.

Hey, Detroit is the best at elevating mediocre wagons into cross-overs, followed closely by Germany.

There are no lame Democrat party members living in China. Point made.

Too bad, ot science and techno;ogy may have a chance. Republicans do not believe in science. Facts are scary, only opinion matters.

@Truthy Of course your tribe the Socialist-Communist Democrats mistakenly believe that "science", "fact", "opinion", and "truth" are synonyms of each other.

Science isn't fact. It is theory.
Opinion isn't truth. It is someone's unsubstantiated belief.

While theories can be proven or disproven by science, Science can indeed be factual. There are different types of theories too, but republicans do not understand this. While evolution is called a theory because it is not observable in real time, it is a fact.
That the earth revolves around the sun is a scientific fact. Atoms revolve around a nucleus - fact. Where did you read that science is an opinion?

Fact: Observations about the world around us. Example: “It's bright outside.” ... Theory: A well-substantiated explanation acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation. Example: “When the sun is out, it tends to make it bright outside.”

China has accomplished nothing yet. All they do is copy what they see elsewhere.
There is little innovation in China. It is not in their culture as it is in the US. Their infrastructure is insufficient across much of the country.
Sounds great, but execution will be key and they have a long way to go. Have you been to China? Done business with Chinese?

I have a slightly different take on this topic:
If I was an auto mfg. based anywhere in the world, I would not be spending my money on EV technology and research. I would license the technology from someone else and use it in my vehicle.
Tesla is already allowing free use of some of their technology. Let someone else spend money creating the "holy grail" of battery technology

You can start with OTA updates, something Tesla has been doing for 7 years and 0 other US automakers are doing outside of minor media updates.

I said eons ago here NOT to underestimate the Chinese and all the racist bigots here kept disparaging them with racist slurs.

China is coming.

GM is vulnerable to being swallowed whole by Geely or GAC.

FCA is in an even more precarious position.

Tesla will be grabbed for the name and then put on superior Chinese designs.

@MD- Very true. The sad part is China at some point will invade Taiwan and or sink someone's ship found sailing too close to their newfound "coastal" waters, and the world will look away for the sake of trade relations. They are not your friends or ours. #avengers

@joneshamilton When Democrats collude and break the law it's OK, but when Republicans are falsely accused, proven innocent, they are still guilty.

If Killary were President, the Chinese would be running rampant.

The TPP that Dumb Donnie pulled us out of would have checked China. But it was more than 120 characters long so he could not follow.
The Mueller did not clear DD of obstruction, in fact 370 prosecutors of all political stripes say it proves clear obstruction
And DD hugs Putin who is showing chaos around the world.
So next time you all say you love America why do you not care that the fascists in charge now ignore the constitution and rule of law?
And DD lost $1.2 billion in ten years. Great businessman.

China will not invade Taiwan. Taiwan has enormous defensive capabilities. Across the water invasions are difficult and the losses would not be worth the prize.
