Speaking at Welsh First Minister’s Questions, Mark Drakeford said the Welsh Government is working with the WLGA (Welsh Local Government Association) to “identify the practical actions needed to implement 20mph speed limits in residential areas across Wales.”

Less speed more pollution!

My thoughts exactly, also given a recent study that the majority ignore the 20 mph limits. A prime revenue source for automated citations.

On residential roads where I live the speed limit is 40kph or 24.6mph. This is not that far off. Any main road is 60kph and roads outside of town are 70-80kph with highways at 90-100kph. Considering some british roads are very narrow, walled and have blind corners, this is not such a bad idea. A bit higher would be more acceptable to the people.

The default US residential speed limit is 25 MPH. Slowing to 20 is agonizing. I accept it in school zones, but would hate it as the standard. We have a nearby town that has 25 and almost every road in their town. All it serves is an easy ticket for the unwary driver. 25 MPH on a straight, flat arterial should be illegal.
