DRIVEN + VIDEO: Are Potential Reliability Concerns The ONLY Thing Holding Back The Cadillac XT4?
In one of its latest videos, the Consumer Reports team decided to talk all things Cadillac XT4. As one of the purchased vehicles in its fleet, CR did a quick drive clip in the XT4 to give us the download.

During that sub three minute clip, it seems that CR actually is in favor of Cadillac's all-new vehicle. While there's a couple hiccups here and there (e.g., the hard and flat rear bench seat), overall, the XT4 gets a rather favorable review.

One area that CR points out though is that Cadillac's reliability isn't anything to write home about. No duh.

But, to me, it seems like an oddball remark in all honesty. With so many other elements of the XT4 that are questionable, why would CR focus on that? What about its $50,000 price tag, which could deliver you plenty of other sport-utility vehicles that maybe just as well trimmed or even larger?

Are there any OTHER concerns that would have you second guessing the XT4? What did Consumer Reports MISS?

Cadillac hopes to attract newcomers to the entry-level luxury SUV segment with the XT4. It’s small size, agile handling and classic Cadillac styling give it an edge in the class, but buyers may want to find a better balance of features for the price.

Luxury Crossovers are now in a class where the people who drive them - lease them and use tax credits to make it worthwhile so the price is NOT the object. Add in that the Germans are now getting even more expensive - and the Cadillac is probably doing duty as a Daily Driver - is below the price of an E-class - and out the door of the dealer is probably closer to $42,000 if bought. That is the place where these sites miss the point - people don't pay list price for these things

@Aspy11 $10K off an XT4 isn't happening unless the dealer wants to lose money, but let's just say that GM has made it easy to say yes to $5K off.

The XT4 should never touch 50K. In person, the cheapness comes through. It's also quite ugly. The Corsair is going to eat it alive. This is another of Jockitch DeNiacin's failures.

All true but the ugly part. I don’t think this thing is ugly.

No, you're right. It's vile and hideous, not merely ugly.

Are these things selling anywhere? I don't recall seeing any on the road in the GTA but maybe the blandness of the design has camouflaged it to go unnoticed for me???

The XT4 and XT5 sell but they are hardly setting records.

@QEW if it is $50k USD, it could be $60k CAD. Really not worth the price of admission. But then again I don't think any of the small or really small luxury SUV's are. The price / space equation is completely off.

gm is trash when it comes to reliability and that includes the entire sad cadillac lineup. CR is correct in mentioning reliability just as they did when merc was bad and while bmw is still bad.

If this was a Hyundai, it would had gotten accused of copying the side profile of the Mitsubishi Eclipse CUV side profile. But because it isnt Korean people are going to pretend it is original.

dude...I don't think anyone is questioning originality. kinda hard to be completely unique today.

Also, It's a GM. It already comes with a whole different set of negative assumptions & gripes - right off the assembly line. Cadillac's have to definitely "justify" their MSRP's and their competitive designs for every model they make.

The bland XT4 will get lots of competition when the stunning Corsair arrives later this Fall. Plus if the Corsair Grand Touring get turbo hybrid like Aviator... Game over for XT4... It will be so out classed... Get the heavy incentives ready GM...!!!

Isn't the Corsair the size of the Edge?

@CarCrazed Nope

Corsair = Escape
Nautilus = Edge
Aviator = Explorer
Navigator = Expedition
