Stark Naked Tesla Model Y Prototype Caught In Wild
A few months after launching the Tesla Model Y, a prototype of the new electric crossover has now been spotted in the wild for the first time.

In March, Tesla showed the Model Y, a new electric crossover based on the Model 3 platform, to the public for the first time.

It gave test rides to attendees at the event in Los Angeles.

The vehicle was also briefly displayed at Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto and its factories in order for more employees to get the chance to see the new car in person.

A day late - but at least I can be off topic In a Tesla Post

Happy Mother's day to all those mothers who kept us alive and breathing all these years. Happy Birthday to Mom as well - may your next 100 years go as well as the first.

That rear 3/4 shot just screams Honda Crosstour or AMC Marlin. Neither one sold very well. Still there are the Prius owners looking for the next thing and great design has never been high on their list.

What's the fuss? The Model Y is nothing more than a clone of the Model 3 ,which is a clone of the Model S. It sure is headed for disaster in the u.S.- competitors are already here and have been winning awards and are a lot cheaper and have greater driving ranges. The also have a $7500 tax credit while the Model Y will have none. So what moron would buy the Model Y instead of a car like the Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona EV, both from a very reliable automaker who will still be around two years from now.

Which competitors have greater driving ranges?
Stop smoking that stuff.

None of the competitors burst into flames. More safely engineered batteries may have lower range. Elon is will to risk fires to brag abour range, Yep, you and your family are a beta.

Beginning to think that Autospies is a catharsis for the Tesla haters, provides an outlet for their angst. Humanitarian in purpose, thank you Spies! :)

Not sure I see what the fuss is about. A perfect cross between the Model 3 and Model X, but seems more proportionate than the X. If it's about the size and height of a GLC Coupe/X4, then it would be a nice one to have.

You mean you have to kneel before Elon to learn what you are supposed to say as a PR troll.

I don't even know if Tesla has a PR department. Owners are the PR, kind of like how Apple was back in the day.

Except that Apple made money, lots of it and without government subsidies or suspect moves by CEO to inflate stock price. Yeah, just like Apple.

If it can turn the heads of people buying a Q5, RX350 or X3 it will sell.

This won't. It needed to be a conventional, upright SUV not a high roof Model 3.

@MD-It is a mini Model X. I would have made a more conventional SUV as well, but nobody asked me. The back should be high enough to have a rear window and a nearly vertical rear hatch. It may fall short on space. But with people spending big money on coupe SUV's who knows.

People are spending big money on coupe SUVs but coupe SUVs aren't big volume at all. Tesla needs the volume.

@MD- Agree on volume. Which brings us back to our original point. Sometimes being conventional is better. It would still look like a Tesla with a higher rear end.

All of these mid size 5 seat SUVs have the same profile. Not exactly heartthrobs. They are not enthusiast vehicles but cater towards the soccer mom. Tesla will sell boatloads just like Audi had a big hit with the Q5.

The vehicles like the Q5 you mention are tradition, practical 2 box SUVs. As MD said above, the fastback SUVs are luxury vehicles that are very expensive, but sell in small numbers. That roofline will prevent it from sweating 7. "Boatloads," laughable.

For 5 people it will have at least as much room as the Model 3, which does have a lot of interior space already. The two back seats are not being called child seats, so I'm assuming they are not super comfortable but you can get two adults back there.

Whatever past interest I had in Tesla was wiped out by their ever-changing pricing "strategy" in which you could be assured that whatever price you paid would be slashed a week later.

It does look like a Honda Crosstour - but WHAT is up with the "haunches"?

Look at all the unresolved lines around the hatchback. It looks like the Tesla designer went nuts with the 'french curve' ruler.

Also, the Tesla "T" is looking especially phallic on the hatch of this Model Y. I think Musk has been subtly changing the design of the "T" over the years to evolve in a more phallic direction.
