Musk Says Tesla Will Leverage Autopilot Data To Reduce Insurance Costs

Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk is turning to the insurance business in an attempt to achieve what the automaker has so far struggled with on the vehicle pricing front: lower costs for customers.

Tesla says it will start offering insurance this month that taps internal data from the AutoPilot driver-assist system to reduce rates. Musk, on Tesla's first-quarter earnings call, said the product would "be much more compelling than anything else out there."

Concentrating your driving style and focus heavily on ways to lower your insurance or avoid higher rates sounds reasonable to some but to an enthusiast is no way to enjoy the art of driving. Driving a great performing car is one of life's pleasure I'm willing to pay more for.

You can have both. Pay rate A when driving for fun and rate B when the car is in control. Driving in traffic is a great example, there is no art in that and it is just a time sink. Why not pay less insurance when stuck in traffic?

Elon says people are pedophiles but that isn't true either.

Elon says a lot of things, mostly BS. For instance, the dog or kid saver fan mode was neither. It was to protect the giant screens which are not car rated - which is why you do not see other automakers copying this. The temperature that prompts the fan would kill a dog or child, but aave the screen. The "dog mode" was just PR.
