The Cadillac STS has always been more upscale than any Japanese luxury offering.

It's a very good-looking car. Not at the top of the class, but it's great to see an American brand stay competitive.

It's a very luxurious looking car but it's American luxury at it's best. Japanese luxury and Euro luxury is different. Both the Japs and the Euro's are just as much about performance, handling, as luxury. Domestics are more concentrated on slapping some wood grain, chrome, and having a soft ride. Not that it's bad but just different philosophy.

The STS is actually fairly performance-oriented.

Drive one, you'll be surprised.

I could say with confidence that it has better handling than a Lexus GS or Jaguar S-Type.
