Michigan Floats Bill To Abolish Parallel Parking Test For New Drivers Because It Is Too Difficult
Future Michigan drivers may be given an easy-out on their driver's license test, all thanks to a new bill which would eliminate the need to demonstrate parallel parking competency.

Sarah Lightner, a Republican senator from the state introduced the bill last Thursday, referring it to Michigan's Committee on Transportation after calling parallel parking "an outdated practice." She stated that the bill was being introduced after her constituents complained that they were failing their license test before even reaching the public road. Lightner says that failing the test over a moot issue makes the process "a money game".

Drivers here in Michigan cant park in a normal parking spot besides the fact that they let anyone pass the driving test! Michigan drivers are awful!! Freeway speeds are 70 and the left lane is where most people drive especially those doing 70 or under.. its pathetic

My younger cousin complained because the car they asked her to use in the drivers test was not equipped with back up cameras or sensors, so they marked N/A on the parallel test and she passed!

As technology gets “better” I can’t help but feel like the human race gets dumber & less competent.

That's right. Keep dumbing down the requirements to gain the privilege of driving. I think we need to add a knowledge and skills test to be a legislator.

I use parallel parking easily once a week. Practice makes perfect.

I'm grateful to know how to parallel park effectively. Though I don't have to do it daily, when I do have to, it's not a problem.

Two thoughts:
- everyone should learn how to parallel park and demonstrate the ability
- even those who have proven the ability during driving tests can't do in the real world
- imagine if a driver who doesn't learn it and is faced with the dilemma. They're going to pull forward into the spot then struggle for hours to get it straight, or leave it awkwardly parked, prone to accidents.

This makes too much sense, and that is a problem today. Just waiting for the gauntlet to fall declaring it discriminatory against someone.

If you can't parallel park a car then you have no damn business driving PERIOD. This BS pandering needs to stop as we are raising a generation of useless pussies and it is a privilege not a right.

So, if you cant do simple (single digit) math...the schools systems should just stop teaching & testing for it. It's just too difficult.

PP already eliminated from the test in Maryland 4 years ago. I'm sure many states will follow as more and more cars can park themselves. Not a fan, but that's what going on....
