NTSB Reveals Tesla's Autopilot Was On In Deadly Model 3 Crash With Semi
Preliminary findings indicate the Autopilot system was indeed on at the time of the fatal crash involving a Model 3. The accident occurred in Delray Beach, Florida back on March 1, 2019.

The driver of the Model 3, Jeremy Beren Banner, perished in the crash.

We should point out that this information from the NTSB is only preliminary at this point in time. A final, conclusive report will be released at a later date.

It is, twice as many accidents happen with autopilot turned off.

It’s unfortunate, I remember this first model S and semi accident, engineers said the software read the side of the semi truck as the sky, major miscalculation

How can the system just rely on software that just uses camera input only.. how about good pld fashion radar ?

They apparently started adding radar tech to later models after realizing Benz has been using radar guided cruise control since the late 90’s without any major disasters which seems to occur regularly For Tesla

It uses radar and ultrasonics as well. Radar is very directional and is aimed low, it could have shot right under the semi. Also, if you're using AP on a freeway with crosstraffic (or on city streets), you have to pay extra attention.

People who drive on Autopilot are stupid and if they die, well they die.

I used to say the same thing until I used the one in my S 550 for stop and go traffic, works like a charm, and I suddenly didnt hate humans on my rush hour commute lol, everyone else looked so tense and stressed, meanwhile I’m just having a 90’s jam session

The same kind you give the poor soul you sold a used Hyundai/Kia prime to recalls, fires, and engine failures....that should suffice

And if you are distracted on the road and die because you're not use Autopilot, that is even more stupid. You have to play the odds and do things that statistically make the most sense (with some exceptions of course).

Talk about bad timing. Musk bets the company's future on self-driving vehicles only to have a self-driving Tesla death in the headlines a week later. Major stockholder bails and Musk states they only have 10 months of cash left. Ouch!
